London to St Albans split ticket

If I buy a day travel card zone 1-6 with YP discount can I buy a boundary zone 6 to St Albans return ticket and use it on the fast trains from St Pancras where the first stop is St Pancras?

Fortunately, EMT don't (usually) call at St Albans.

A 'Boundary Zone' ticket is an extension of a Travelcard and is valid for use on services where the train does not stop at the zone boundary. This is not a split ticket in the usual sense.

I think that you must buy the Travelcard before you pass the Boundary of Zone 6 so that you have a valid ticket for the whole journey - the last time I checked, FCC had withdrawn off-peak singles and return between St Albans and 'LONDON TERMINALS' or 'LONDON THAMESLINK' forcing many people to just pay for Super Off-Peak Travelcards instead, which are still massive rip-offs in comparison to similarly far away destinations!

Remember that if you're using an Oyster PAYG, you can get a cheaper fare provided that you physically touch in at the Zone 6 Boundary (i.e. leave and rejoin the train at Elstree & Borehamwood), and do not take a fast train and simply touch-in at St Pancras.

£11.50 assuming you mean the Off-Peak Day Return, otherwise your comparison with a Day Travelcard makes no sense.

No reason for the existence of Off-Peak Day Single under normal circumstances if the Off-Peak Day Return is not cheaper than the Anytime Day Single.
