Looking to book Kings Cross - Sheffield on 8 Feb (Midland Line is closed), but advance tickets not on sale

As this is only 5.5 weeks away, how late are they issued, atone time the rule was 12 weeks notice, then I remember a temporary cut to 6 weeks, but when has it changed to under 6 weeks

Any advice appreciated

I am not sure there are rules per se about how far in advance, or indeed whether, advance tickets need to be offered. The traditional twelve week timeline seems to be honoured more in the breach than in the observance nowadays.

There are a number of factors at play, but I would expect that the trains will be opened for reservation some time next week. I will post on here when I have a clearer indication of when that will be. The Christmas break will have caused a slight delay.

Not sure what time you are looking to travel but both Hull Trains and Grand Central are offering advances Kings Cross to Doncaster on Feb 8th.

9.42 is £16
10.43 is £12
11.47 is £16

plus more for the afternoon.

cheaper to buy London to Doncaster advances with a single to Sheffield from there than direct advances with these operators.

As others will have said, I strongly recommend buying Hull Trains/Grand Central Advances to Doncaster then an off peak single to Sheffield. Hull Trains currently have advances for £16 one way without railcard. You can also buy a ticket for Rail bus and Tram travel around the Sheffield area including Doncaster. It actually totals to around 2 hours journey time anyway, so you wont be late for anything!
