London to Liverpool off peak return

quick question.... the return portion of an off peak return to Liverpool - is a valid route via kings cross, break at Cambridge and on to Liverpool via East Midlands Trains?

What journeys do you wish to make exactly?

Is your journey Liverpool to London, London to Cambridge, Cambridge to Liverpool?

If so, a Liverpool to Stevenage SVR routed +Any Permitted is valid outward via Euston and return via Cambridge & Peterborough. Note: the train does need to call at Stevenage.

Or, for 5p less, obtain a Liverpool to Cambridge Off Peak Return (routed Not via London) and a change of route excess for the outward portion only to the Super Off Peak Return routed +Any Permitted. This allows use of the non-stop trains from London to Cambridge. This cannot be purchased online, but can be purchased at all good ticket offices with fully functioning ticket issuing systems and staffed with competent staff. So you may need to shop around....

In that case the above suggestions won't work as the outward portion can't be used on Monday (unless you add a single from London to Stevenage or London to Cambridge, respectively)

There aren't many websites that can search for such a journey, but one that can is Trainsplit.com

To this search for:

Cambridge to London Terminals
Click Advanced Options
UNTICK the box that says "use these for return journey as well" ).
Outward journey - via STA
Return journey - call at CBG (+99 extra mins), call at PBO, AVOID: KGX

If it was me, I think I'd get a Liverpool to Stevenage return plus a London to Stevenage single.
