London to Crawley and return

is there a cheaper possibility to get from Central London to Crawley and back than 17.60 (on a saturday, same day return)? Oyster PAYG is available.

An Off Peak Day Return (CDR) from Coulsdon South [CDS] to Crawley is £9.40. In fact, the fare is no cheaper than from Croydon Stations, so you may as well get that for convenience!

So yes, slightly cheaper, assuming "central London" is Victoria, or London Bridge, or anywhere else with a National Rail only fare to Croydon.

If Three Bridges is good enough then you can get a Super Off Peak Return from London St Pancras to Three Bridges for £8, route "not Underground". You could use this from stations between St Pancras and London Bridge. That's better than getting it from, say, Blackfriars, as the route would be "Thameslink Only".

A Three Bridges to Crawley Off Peak Return is £2.90, but you can walk that in about 20 minutes if you want to save money.

As I have to go to Crawley Town FC Three Bridges is too far I reckon.

Isn't there a bus between the ground and Three Bridges? There certainly used to be! It used the ridiculous guided busway which some people are fooled into thinking is like having a tram system.

In that case you could get a St Pancras to Gatwick ticket, then Gatwick Plusbus for £3.70. Bus 10 goes direct from Gatwick to the stadium every 6 minutes, as well as bus 20 every 20 minutes. Route 20 also goes via Three Bridges. Three Bridges Plusbus is also £3.70.

Please do not call the Fastway ridiculous, since those new Volvos came in, staff and passengers seem a lot happier, I really like the new buses good suggestion from radamfi, I would come down to Three Bridges then get the 20 to the ground, then just board whatever you can coming back, and go to Gatwick or Three Bridges as required.

You could buy a Super Off Peak Day Return from any of the following stations to Crawley (or Three Bridges) for £12.00. It'd give you freedom over which train you take from Central London to Crawley. They're all routed Any Permitted and include a Cross London journey on the Underground.
