Whilst I see that you can make the return journey on New Years Day by purchasing an Advance ticket for around £12.55, this won't be helpful as your outward journey will cost £38.95 (and the Super Off Peak Return [SSR] is £39.60 anyway).

I think you left it a little bit too late to expect to find anything less than £39.60, unfortunately.

Unfortunately I've never personally had any luck in terms of splitting between London and Sheffield, and having a quick look I can't seem to return anything that works out cheaper than the SSR.
