London to Cardiff May 2011

I travel regularly from Kent to Caerphilly. The advance fare is a reasonable £14.50 each way and even includes the HST to St Pancras. I usually book the 13.15 from London Paddington to Cardiff Central though I can get the same fare an hour earlier or later.

From 9/5 -17/5 these xx.15 trains do not appear to be running. I am being offered an xx 15 to Bristol Parkway and then two changes or xx 45 direct, both with higher fares (£25) . My first thought was that the timetable had changed - the train is never busy- but from 18/5 everything is back to normal.

Is there an explanation please ?

Engineering works at Newport are causing Cardiff terminators to be diverted to Temple Meads. I can't say any more than that, but information is on National Rail Enquiries. Trains to Swansea will continue to run though.
