London to Buckley

Off from London to Buckley on Friday 8th October

No railcard. I'm not coming back.

I can't get to Euston before 1245. I need to be in Buckley before 1900 (earlier would be good).

I've found the £46.50 Virgin 1st class advance fare on a couple of trains which appears to be the cheapest direct fare! I've found splitting at Crewe that there's an LM fare at £18 + 2nd class to Buckley for another £11 (no 1st on those services). I'm not sure about the amount of time on LM. What's their 1st like? It's a long time since I caught Virgin 1st during the week. What can I expect?

I'm probaby going for the £46.50 but thought I'd check in case there's any splitting points or similar...

If you are thinking of comparing 1st on Virgin to LM, then don't!
LM has nothing extra (maybe a power socket), and is still 2+2 seating, not particularly comfortable and no catering service.

If you are not in a hurry, you could take WSMR to Wrexham - currently £35 for a 1st advance single, and includes a full meal. (This would probably take a similar time to travelling on LM, only 1 change, and a huge amount nicer!).

If you are going on Virgin, I think you want to try and get a Pendolino rather than a Voyager. There is much more space in first, and you get a better catering service (apparently, as I've never been in first on a Virgin Voyager).

Hmm, seems to be nothing in my timescale for WMSR advance - probably nto surprising for a Friday afternoon. I tend not to do well for meals on trains except for Eurostar as I can specify vegan with them when booking.

Yes, I find that vegan food (beyond a packet of peanuts or similar) seems to be pretty much non-existent on trains in the UK. I wish operators would cotton on to the fact that anything vegan is also vegetarian so it's not like they'd have to carry any more choices, just swap a cheese-based vegetarian option for a vegan one and everyone's happy.
