London to Bedford & back - what ticket to get?

Hi,

I shall be travelling from Crayford to Bedford on Friday 10th April, returning the evening of Saturday 11th April.

I have a 60+ Oyster Card, so my query is regarding the best ticket/s to get me from London to Bedford & back.

I would like to get a Thameslink train from London Bridge to Bedford (& the same coming home) for the convenience of changing trains there, & not being restricted to a certain train / reserving a seat.

The plan is to get to Bedford around 4pm on the Friday.

I'm not sure what time I will be leaving Bedford on the Saturday evening, I imagine it would be between 6.30 & 7.30pm, but I don't want to be tied to a particular train.

I would appreciate your suggestions regarding a ticket (return or 2 singles) that I can buy which I could use on Thameslink trains there & back, but would give me the option of using EMR etc. should there be problems with Thameslink on either the Friday, or Saturday.

Choose the cheapest ticket to match your days/times, so off peak day single out, super off peak single return I think.

Or use the forum’s ticketing and use the advanced options to indicate you already hold a Travelcard.

If you want to buy the Boundary Zone 6 tickets online, Avanti sells them directly.

If I did as you suggest, & Thameslink trains weren't running to Bedford on Friday afternoon, or to London on Saturday evening, would my ticket/s be valid on EMR trains to/from Bedford?
