London to Bari - taking longer this time

I took a trip in March via Paris, Turin and then the night train to leave one day and arrive the morning of the next day in Bari. Does anyone have any thoughts on why I don't seem to be able to do this one again on October?

I need to be in Bari around 1730hrs so it doesn't have to be a morning arrival but that doesn't seem possible?

Engineering works in the Mont Cenis Tunnel 11/09 to 09/10, so no direct Paris to Turin services.

I just picked the 15th Oct at random and got trains to Bari for the morning after leaving London. It needed a FrecciaRossa from Torino to Bolgna and a InterCitty Notte from there to Bari, but 08:01 departure and 07:00 arrival.

You should be able to route through Switzerland without too much time penalty. But the direct night train to Bari leaves at 1945, so you’d need an early start from London.

Alternatively you can get a much later night train to Rome, and continue to Bari the following day.

As always with this sort of questions, you need to specify travel date as precisely as possible, because engineering works are usually not running from exactly the first until the last of the month.

Many thanks for your inputs everyone - this is for 5 October (as I should have said at the start...)

I've so far booked to get me to Strasbourg for 1204hrs.

From there it looks as though I can get to Milano Centrale at 1920hrs.

Taking the train to Rome (Ostiense) is a great idea - dep 2113hrs from Milano Porta Garibaldi - but the 0554hrs arrival is not ideal.

So I've booked that train but with a ticket to Napoli arrival 0846hrs in the hope that I will be able to get a 0904hrs to Bari via Caserta. The aim being to get to Bari before 1730hrs.

Does that look possible or will I just have to get up early in Rome?

Interestingly, it was cheaper to buy a single sleeper via Trenitalia (€99) than as a reservation using the Interrail pass (€122).

That sounds like a good plan. Going to Strasbourg means you only have to walk from Gare du Nord to Gare de l'Est, too.

The 0904 RE from Naples should be doable, and there's a later option at 0930 which leaves a bit more room.
