+London tickets

I have SVR tickets between Liverpool Stns and Reading Stns (Route +London)

If I want to use the underground as follows:
Euston - Embankment (exit station)
Embankment - Paddington

...is this permitted with my ticket? Or do I need to buy something else? If so, what?

Passengers holding tickets which include the Cross London Transfer tickets are permitted to break their journey at any intermediate London however they may not resume the journey with the same ticket. So if you wanted to stick with the itinerary, you would need to purchase a ticket (or use an Oyster Card) between Embankment and Paddington:

Ticket holders may break their journey at an intermediate LU or DLR station, e.g. Canary Wharf, provided the ticket has not already been used to exit the Underground or DLR. However, if they subsequently continue their journey by LU or DLR, they must purchase the appropriate LU or DLR single ticket.

Why would you want to go that way anyway.

The best route is Paddington to Euston Square on the H&C or Non Circle lines?

I would suspect that it might swallow your ticket as it would be see by the gates as break of journey.

I doubt it would.

The passenger could quite reasonably be travelling from Euston to Embankment/Charing Cross to Waterloo East/Waterloo to Reading.

I've used +London tickets at multiple tube stations now. In my experience, if it's a mainline interchange station, ie CHX, EUS, PAD, then any +London ticket will go through time after time, and doesn't chew the ticket. If it's a non-interchange mainline station ie Monument, Chancery Lane, the +London ticket will be refused by the gate.

As such, expect to have problems at Embankment. You could probably sail through by showing a gate goon your ticket, but you'd be better off going in and out at CHX. It's only a 3 min walk!

Why don't you go for Lunch on the Southbank, exiting at Embankment, then get the Reading train from Waterloo?

I struggle to see how it could possibly be 2 hours slower! Embankment to Reading going via Waterloo if timed right should be little more than an hour and a half (1 hr 20 journey time from Waterloo). Embankment is a lot nearer Waterloo than Paddington - it's literally just a case of crossing the bridge.

Hmm, 1hr 20m from Waterloo on a 458 as opposed to 26 mins on a HST from Paddington, I know what I'd go for
