London spotting expedition.

Hey guys I've managed to get the day off work tomorrow, and have purchased a cheap return to London with an off peak travel card. After arriving at Euston I've got 9 hours before returning home. I'm planning to go over to Waterloo then down to Clapham Junction via Vauxhall. After that I'm not really sure what to do. I'm looking to put some numbers in my book, mostly units I guess but would like to see some loco's either diesel or electric. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Electric locos in Kings Cross (91 & the odd 90), Liverpool Street (90).

I'm sure someone will be around soon to give you a list of the best places for freight around London.

Denmark Hill is a good bet for freight plus lots of units. Good coffee shop too!

Bethnal Green for GA and LO - can see everything going to/from Liverpool Street from one spot - 315s, 317s, 321s, 345s, 360s, 379s, 90s, DVTs.

Ealing Broadway gives a decent mix of old (HSTs) and new (IETs, 387s), plus freight.

Camden Road is a freight hotspot, whilst South Kenton is good for combining 66s with the WCML units.

West Hampstead Thameslink for 43s, 700s and 222s, and a bit of freight.

Just pointing out that the HSTs through Ealing are fairly limited now, there's a few SW services in the afternoon though.
Hendon or Mill Hill is good for HSTs and 222s at speed!

When I’m in London on limited time I do an hour at Clapham.
Then do the termini at KX, StP & Euston, then Marylebone and Paddington. I live in Wales so the GWR stuff is not an issue for me - but if you can get to Acton that’s good as you get lots of freight including the 59s on a good day.

If I’ve got time I also try Liverpool st.

With Clapham I go out of Victoria and back into Waterloo.

From Paddington I went to Marylebone and from Marylebone I went over to St Pancras and kings cross before heading back to Euston for a couple of really expensive beers (£5.05 a pint lol). Next time I go I will a visit few more of your suggestions

Sounds like you did a good job - did you get photos of HSTs in three different stations!

And HST's out of Kings Cross and Paddington. Go to some where like Alexandra Palace for the soon to be scrapped 313's and you should get past Hornsby depot.

Not sure if gospel oak is better than camden road with all the goblin stuff going through there but camden road gets the freight that heads up the ecml that bypasses gospel oak a bit of moving about between the two would get you a good amount of freight movements
