London - Sheffield HSTs?

Good Day All

I will travel to Sheffield on Dec 27th a'noon / evening (to join the Deltic tour the next day).

Can anyone advise which departures are HST? I am flexible so will plan so as to ride one.

just done some more research:

Should have done this sooner, but having found the EMT diagrams in www.125group.org.uk (of which I'm a member) it seems the 18:15 ID62 and 18:25 IF63 departures from STP will fit the bill. Would anyone be so kind as to confirm I have read these correctly and suggest any others?

I'd also appreciate suggestions of any other reasonably expeditious ways of getting to Sheffield using an HST for at least part of the trip, bearing in mind I'm actually starting from Gatwick Airport. I'm sure there are some timetable experts out there who can research this with much less time and effort than it would cost me!

One that springs to mind would be to take LM from Euston to Tamworth or Birmingham, and then the XC HST from there to Sheffield. That way you can also take advantage of the cheaper LM+XC tickets from London to Sheffield, although it'll take longer.

Two possibilities for this (there are only two northbound XC HSTs on Saturdays):

1446 London Euston to Tamworth (arr 1608)
1619 Tamworth to Sheffield (arr 1718)
or
1813 London Euston to Birmingham New St (arr 2021)*
2103 Birmingham New St to Sheffield (arr 2223)
*there's also the 1849 from Euston, arriving New Street at 2101, but it's very unlikely you'll make such a tight connection.

Via Nottingham? HSTs are the usual thing on the hourly faster St Pancras-Nottingham (the xx15 I think), then onwards with EMT or NT according to taste.

And the difference in the onward journey is that on a NT 158 you have unrestricted vision to appreciate the delights of the Erewash Valley.

On an EMT 158, vision is very limited!

How about the ECML to Doncaster and then taking NR/TPE to Sheffield?

Or even EMT London-Nottingham which are been extended to Grantham on 27th, then if you time it right, EC HST to Doncaster for TPE/NR unit to Sheffield for your hotel/b&b.

MML to Doncaster would be doable (Hull Trains 180!), takes in some rare track too!

The EMT Timetable states HST or MED above the listed service (the former being obvious, the latter referring to a Meridian 222).

Or, as already mentioned, there is the 125 group, which lists the diagrams.

• 1D62 18:15 STP-LDS, arriving in SHF at 21:23
• 1F63 18:25 STP-LDS, arriving in SHF at 20:53
• 1D69 19:32 STP-LDS, arriving in SHF at 22:34

FGW's timetables show which XC trains are Voyagers and which are HSTs (as well as which of their own are HSTs of course).

They also used to show Adelantes back in the day, although they don't seem to now since they've got a few back.

The 180 worked services on the Cotswold line are indicated by the symbol which states free wi-fi is available.

Half hour services between Gatwick and London Victoria via Horsham and Sutton are operating for most of the day departing at xx00 and xx30. Providing you have a through ticket you'll have no problem using these services.

Looks like I'm going to have to keep it simple, so using the 1955 ex STP.
