Now that Oyster Pay as you go is now accepted between Balham and London Victoria, can i also top up my card at these stations.

Update:

The FRPP has been updated today with the following:

Advice has been received that the start date for acceptance of Oyster Pay-As-You-Go on Southern services between Balham and London Victoria has been postponed until Sunday 27 September because of some technical issues that have arisen.

So acceptance will begin on the September 27th and not the September 20th as I posted yesterday.

Update 2:

A slight update, in that I am reliably informed that part of the reason for the one week push back was the start of the new Southern franchise which occurred yesterday.

Don't forget that if you travel after 0930 it may still be cheaper to use a paper ticket. The CDR (no railcard discounts) is £4.10, but an Oyster off peak fare to London is £2.00, and if you come back between 4pm and 7pm you will be chinged £2.60 on the way back, which is 50p more than a paper ticket! It's even worse for Railcard holders.

I wonder if they plan to ramp up the paper fares like they did with LU? I suspect so! They may also (or instead) introduce evening peak restrictions on CDRs. Fare rises by the back door? I wouldn't put it past them!

Another update for you: PAYG acceptance has been put back again to some point in October. It wouldn't surprise me if it goes live with the rest of the National Rail stations in the Travelcard area!
