My local Nationwide branch has had a "Temporary Sign" (which is written in the corner of the sign) for the last 15 years! Maybe something to do with planning requirements?

I've seen diff designs at Imperial Wharf (roundel), Acton Town, Stratford, and the others with temporary orange signs. I guess eventually they are all going to be roundels or new white and orange signs, but I think TfL have larger priorities at the moment :D

That would make sense but even the ones that say 'Way out' etc have temporary sign and they are the same as the ones in the design standards

Maybe they ain't sure what design they want - do they want all signs to be exactly like the Tube but orange, or something else? They had orange roundels at Kilburn High Rd stn the other day, did'dnt notice anything about 'Way out'/'booking office' signs etc. I'll keep a lookout, but like I say, with the new trains, new lines and other aspects of TfL, making sure all signs are the same isn't top of their priorities list :D

Looks like they will make them all Tube-like eventually :D

All the 'Temporary Signs' on London Overground stations will be removed as each of those stations goes through its phase 3 refurbishment. They will each become the standard Transport for London logo but with a hint of orange rather then red and with Johnson typeface. Not sure how they are going to do those former stations on the southern though as they have a mixture of Southern and London Overground signage, something that did not take place when LO took over the former Silverlink.

Eventually all stations will resemble a London Transport feel about them. Even my local station (Crouch Hill) has had the National Rail (British Rail) logo removed now. It would appear that is the plan for all LO stations except those that are owned or run by other tocs / Network Rail.

At Sydenham, about 3 months ago before the ELL opened, LO went round, where it said Southern on any sign, stuck a sticker with TfL London Overground on it, even on CCTV warning signs. Its also quite clear that the signs are just green underneath covered in white and orange :D

At least Sydenham has three brand new Overground TVM's while Forest Hill has to make do with Southern Quick Fare ones.

Incidentally all the former Southern stations on the East London Line will get the TfL roundel signs eventually.

Forest Hill currently has a mix of TfL direction signs on the footbridge, Green Southern direction signs and others, such as bus stop ones from the Connex era.

On a couple of stations Reading-Oxford and Oxford itself there's Thames Trains' old 'Welcome to...' signs, as well as on Hemel Hemp with Silverlink :D In some corners of the NXEA network there are still Great Eastern station signs, (such as Sudbry, Bures & Chappel & WC). Strange though because half of the stations on EMT's network are still Regional Railways :D

Whereabouts are they then (what stations and whhere) as I've never seen any?

Goring & S: London end of island platform;
Oxford: London end of northbound platform; and
I think Cholsey: somewhere on the island :D

In another twist, while some LO stations have Black on Orange or White on Orange NR style 'temporary' signs, and some have LU style Roundel signage; at Stratford the new LO platforms have now been given white NR style signs with an Orange stripe and the LU Central Line platforms seem to have been given the same NR style signs but with a red stripe!

Dunno, its owned by TfL, kind of making it a Tube thing. Still part of National Rail though, but it looks like TfL have more power over it than other operators do with their networks :D

It is a Transport for London service running on Network Rail infrastructure. The question is not wrong to ask by the way.

Manchester Victoria has a huge sign on the back wall by the highest numbered platform (I don't know which number it is) which has RR branding. I tried to take a picture but it just came out blurred

Yes and No to be honest.
Most stations on the North London Line show both the National Rail (British Rail) symbol and the London Overground symbol.

On the Gospel Oak to Barking line the National rail symbols are gradually being removed as they go through the phase 3 station upgrades. They are being replaced with just the London Overground symbol.

Cannot really give information regarding the London Overgrounds other lines as i dont go over them.

I did hear that LO stations where another TOC doesn't operate services would have the NR double arrow sign removed.

Incidentally no stations on the East London Line from Surrey Quays to Dalston Junction has NR branding, except on paper tickets.

AFAIAA London Overground is a TOC, as London Overground Rail Operations Ltd (LOROL) appears on ATOC's list of TOC's.

They use standard TVM's which (again AFAIAA) can issue tickets to any NR station [like any other] and in their ticket offices they use standard TIS machines, which can issue any ticket (inc. rangers and rovers) like any other TIS, contrary to what some staff believe ;).

Also ALR's are valid on LO services.

The various London Underground line maps on platforms also show interchanges with London Overground services in the same way they do with other LU lines and the DLR. In many cases you get an orange box with a white National Rail symbol and the word Overground inside. If memory serves for example at various stations' line maps on the District Line, interchange at Barking is shown as: Red NR symbol (signifying C2C and LO), the word Barking, interchange roundel, then a block containing Hammersmith & City in mauve and the orange block described above, so the NR symbol appears twice.

Compare this to the maps inside tubes which show a LO interchange as a Overground in an orange box without NR symbol. The symbol may still appear in red but it isn't inside the orange box.

AIUI the first London Overground signs had white lettering on an orange background, which worked brilliantly during the day, but at night under sodium lighting were near illegible!

Can LO stations issue railcards?.

Just i asked at Surrey Quays and was told the nearest stations that could issue a young persons railcard was London Bridge as they were London Overground and not National Rail.

Crazy, I've been to Surrey Quays and on the platforms, they have ATOC posters for Senior Railcards!

The LO stations on the southern section from New Cross Gate to West Croydon certainly still issue railcards.

I've even picked up NR reserved tickets from my local LO station TVM!

I'm not aware of any staffed stations being unable to issue railcards, I don't see why not.

That's like Euston saying "We are Virgin and not National Rail"!

National Rail is just the generic name given to the rail services provided by all TOCs, including LO.

National Rail effectively is ATOC, and LO are members.

LO is an NR TOC and the tickets issued are "NR tickets".

The confusing thing is trying to get a Railcard loaded onto an Oyster Card. Tried to do it at Shoreditch High Street, but was told to try Whitechapel as they can't do it.
