A quick question, are London Overground 317's kept on any specific diagrams out of Liverpool Street or are they interchangeable with 315's on any diagram. I have yet to see them on what any one can call a fixed pattern as of yet but I may be missing something?

Thank You
Tommy

They generally stick to the Chingford lines off peak and enfield and Chingford in the peaks. No they don't operate 8 car units with 315's, never seen that before. Although a few 315s seem to be all over the place, one with only two carriages operational and another with 3 currently making moves on the lea valley lines.

They are also sometimes used on the Romford to Upminster shuttle. I saw a 317/7 on it last month but im not sure how often it occurs.

As I type this I am sat on 317719 doing the Romford - Upminster shuttle, so It does happen. Very nice in declassified first class it is too.

Here it is at Romford:

I was under the impression that all Lea Valley line workings were interworked as follows:

Chingford-Liverpool St-Enfield-Liverpool St-Chingford-Liverpool St-Cheshunt-Liverpool St-Chingford etc etc.

?

Listen very carefully, I will say this only once ;)

There are specific class 317 diagrams, but the /7s and /8s are interchangeable. 315s are better for the all stations work, so 317s are diagrammed to the minimum. There are more maintenance spare 317s than 315s so occasionally a 317 can turn up on a 315 diagram. During disruption all bets are off.

The drivers depot is at Chingford, so yes the workings are interchangeable to avoid lots of drivers travelling around passenger.

WHL has a history of 'interesting' posts, so a pinch of salt is required there.

And finally, for the avoidance of all doubt, once again, the Lea Valley is the route via Brimsdown.

Period, as our American cousins would say.

I think it's probably fair to say that it was obvious what I was referring to, and indeed that it was not without precedence. But for the avoidance of doubt, I refer to the routes via Edmonton and Walthamstow specifically...

To clarify, are you saying that the interworking between routes does or does not happen as I have intimated?

Which bit of "yes the workings are interchangeable" implies that they aren't? ;) Look at the Liverpool St platform working in RealTimeTrains if you're still in doubt.

And as for believing Wikipedia, that gets a double

Any spotter could have put that on Wiki, that doesn't make it correct, even if some do believe they know more than the professionals.

I think MOST of them are, however a few run to either temple mills or Ilford EMD.

I know recently it's been a bit more regular to see 317's on the enfield and cheshunt lines in the day off peak

I think we're talking at cross purposes re interchangeable/interworked. Besides which, I hope you note that I was never in doubt about it - I was clarifying whether you were agreeing with me or not, as I didn't feel it was particularly clear.

Yup, they sure could have, and if it's so wrong I am surprised it hasn't been edited by now! My point purely being that there's no need for quite such pedantry.

I've not particularly noticed a preference either way on the Chingford line - (I live in E17) besides the fact that they do have a couple more 315's that 317's. Had a ride on one the refurb'd 317's with lovely 2+1 first class seating in LO moquette the other day!

Given that the off peak diagrams seem pretty standard, how do they work the peak time extras into that? Or are they self contained? I'm sure I could sit down for a bit with RTT and work it out, but if anyone happens to have an idea already...

Bit of both. Look at RTT and you'll be able to work out that the peak diagrams are not the same as the off peak. The inclusion of the Hertfords via Southbury and extra Enfields, together with the platform working at Liverpool St mean the diagrams can't be the same as off peak.

I'll let you edit Wikipedia now you know ;)

Pedantry or Accuracy? Take your pick.
