What a total shambles for LNWR today…

Trying to get to Rugby today.

The 0924 Euston to Birmingham cancelled
The next train past Northampton was supposed to the 1001.. also cancelled.

Advice was to get the 0955 train to Northampton (which was standing to sardine level) and wait 50 minutes for a connection onwards.

Following this highly overcrowded service at 0955, the next service running north of Milton Keynes is to be the 1053… if it is running .

Almost non-existent support for customers at Euston and it’s like LNWR have given up the Pretence of running a basic service on a Sunday.. or their train crews have at the very least.

Totally ruined the plans for my son and will get into Rugby some 2 hours late… no even sure how I’m going to get back to London with this many cancellations

Shame you couldn’t get to the station in time for the 08:55 which ran, or change your ticket for the Avanti 09:46 which also ran.

It’s been the same since November 2007 and the birth of London Midland.

Very much a continued and sustained failure by management at all levels to address the franchise wide problems.

There was never these problems with the New to Euston service was operated by very much family sized Silverlink.

The rot started when they bolted on the rump of Central Trains with all their crap management.

Yes management at West Midlands Railway are a total shower.

Just look at the timetable disaster at the start of the franchise. The same idiots are still there

Actually, no, they’re not. There’s been some major management changes at WMR since the franchise started.

No they aren’t. Both the then MD and the timetabling “guru” that thought up the whole thing got the bullet. There were others too.

Silverlink was chronically run down and neglected, especially in their London branches which eventually became the Overground.

I find LNWR pretty good to be honest, trains are reliable and there are rarely ever cancellations when I use them.

I travelled on it for 43 years and it was, in the main, very good. The only problems I had were when the timetable was subject to resource optimisation, funnily enough by the same individual but working for two different organisations.

The second time (the 2019 muck up) was unforgivable because as soon as we found out what was going on and who was involved, they were warned what would happen and our fears were also expressed on, amongst others, this site!

On another site, Tony Miles recently said that copies of what we had said over there in 2019 had been given to the Owning Group management and the TOC MD was asked to give an assurance that it would all work. He did and, after a decent interval, he got the sack, as did the timetable guru.

To be fair, our friend from the west country was effectively retired anyway. He wasn't the only timetabler to go either I believe.

Miles isn’t a journalist he’s just a mouthpiece for TOCs that give him a free pass. The DfT don’t like this so he doesn’t like them.

I use the Crewe to Euston service quite regularly and have found it pretty reliable. Time keeping has slipped a bit in recent weeks but I've not seen much in the way of cancellations. Looks like there's been a full complement of CRE-EUS services today with none cancelled. If only my experiences with Avanti were as good as LNR!

Good thing I decided to board a Pendo from Watford to take me to Milton Keynes instead of waiting for that 09:55 Northampton to roll in. I had a feeling it would have been extra busy due to the previous Birmingham being started from Milton Keynes and Crewe train being cancelled.

Much of their Birmingham / Liverpool service was trashed at the Liverpool end yesterday (23 July) afternoon & evening. Passengers at Lime Street were being advised to take a Northern service to Liverpool South Parkway and change to "rail replacement buses".
