Well, despite my usual reservations on the quality of the offering these days; I’m pleased to report that I’ve just received excellent service.
Due to a late connection at Peterborough, I managed to just make my train through the guards local door, but this meant I was in the opposite set to my reservation. Once the train was moving the guard tracked me down and personally ensured I got immediate service. Within a few minutes of ordering the Pie, I received it along with crisps and lemon pot. The drinks trolley appeared immediately, and I was also offered a second glass of wine before I’d even finished the first, as the trolley passed back through the train. I’m only travelling to Doncaster, so only 20 minutes in to the journey I’m satisfied already with what I’ve received.
Homity Pie and salad was tasty too.

I enjoyed the homity pie on recent trips too, my only first impression was that I'd have preferred a hot side, the hot/cold thing seemed a bit odd but I soon got used to it. The pie itself I thought was particularly good.
Agreed! I had it twice on my trip to Inverness. And actually loved the green side salad with lemon vinaigrette.

Would there be a food offering on an Edinburgh to Aberdeen journey
It would be on a Saturday, departure EDB 14:31, arrive ABD at 17:06
Alternative time, is leaving EDB at 10:27, arriving in Aberdeen at 13:02

Definitely should be, I'd expect orders to be taken shortly after departure from Edinburgh.
Yes - there is food offered (even if you are only going as far as Dundee), with orders usually taken some time after departure from Haymarket (although sometimes it can take until around Inverkeithing - there is usually a crew change at Edinburgh).
One hot/cold drinks run between Edinburgh and Dundee, with a second run after Dundee.

I actually thought there would be more LNER trains going to Aberdeen from Edinburgh, so I may have to change plans.
My wife and I are actually heading to Inverness from Newcastle, but after a separate posting on this forum it was suggested travelling via Aberdeen. We have never been there and wouldn't mind even just a short visit, so we'll probably take an earlier ScotRail service, before catching the train to Inverness.

Don’t hold your breath. I took a Virgin HST to Aberdeen in 2018, expecting it to be like Inverness. Probably the most empty place I’ve ever been to. Reminds me of my partner’s hometown of Barrow.

I thought we could see the harbour, not far from the station but there are fences all around, so not even that great for a couple of 'selfies'

It would be worth a short visit, I think describing Aberdeen as "empty" is rather peculiar.

Really good service on the 7 13 from morpeth to London. First drinks run and food order after newcastle. Really decent breakfast. Then plenty of drinks runs
They appear to have removed all the headrests from first class for some reason.......
I had the Bombay potato salad on the 12:06 KGX to Lincoln service (so only the Deli menu) on Tuesday. It was quite nice, and I fancied something different than the variations on a sandwich.

I did the 1809 from Darlington to Glasgow Central a couple of weeks ago and the service was reasonable. One run of food and a few rounds of drinks. The new menu was being served. Indeed the customer host mentioned it was the first day she'd been doing them and had yet to try all the new options herself
I had the lamb Rogan Josh which was very tasty, only issue was I think it needed a bit more sauce (there is some but it's under the rice) but otherwise was very nice.

An improvement if anything! They always just got into the way and slipped down around your shoulders. It was not unusual to find various headrests had been taken off and shoved in a luggage rack in my experience!

I'm sure I read somewhere (it may have been further up this thread) that they'd been taken off deliberately, and one particular day customers were invited to take theirs with them if they so wished.
I did watch a YT video recently, where the guy was complaining about them. They never bothered me tbh. The thing is, without them the seats don't look quite right. It's obvious something is missing.

Not so long ago that service would have got you the Full English breakfast (but no alcohol). I travelled on it in 2017.
Does anyone know what LNER's plans for the menus are for December? I'm travelling in December (on the 08:00 to York), and am hoping to have the aforementioned cooked breakfast that train is supposed to provide.

Yes if I had got the 9.30 it would have been the full breakfast but had come off a long flight so wasn't to bothered
Probably around mid(ish) December to early January they'll be doing the "Festive Menu" which will be some variation of "Dish" (if we're lucky). So if travelling around then I'd expect disappointment!
I'm travelling in very early December (3rd), so hopefully that will be before they inflict people with the paupers'.......sorry "Festive" menu.

Excellent Service between Edinburgh and Leuchars today (and back) on £8.30 each way tickets.
Out on the 1028
Cold Drinks Served first just after Inverkeithing (Whisky and Coke) before anyone shouts sacrilege the Pepsi was quickly secreted into my bag unopened.
Followed by Food - Yummy Chicken and Stuffing Roll , Crisps and a delicious but microscopic Salted Caramel Pot.
Then a cup of Coffee and packet of Biscuits.
Back on the 1624 swerved my reserved seat in K to defect to M the new place to be like the old K on an HST. Did this so I would be spotted boarding at a non- core (for food services) Station.
Needn't have worried as the Steward set off with a pad to take orders from other boarders further down.
Had exactly the same as outward journey but only drank the Whisky and Coffee took the rest home for later.

Sounds decent. Never tried First class on shorter runs north of Edinburgh. Used to be able to get decent Glasgow to Newcastle first class advances. Might try Edinburgh to Dundee or Aberdeen.

Funny you should mention that I'm going to Aberdeen tomorrow and coming back Sunday - poorer value at £24.65 each (relatively speaking)
Expecting 2nd Service after Dundee - key will be if offered another main item off the menu.
Avoid Breakfast Services for value !!
I've done Leeds-Dundee on the 0708 direct departure a few times. It changes from Breakfast Dine to lunchtime Dish at Edinburgh and I've had two meals without issue

Currently onboard Edinburgh to Aberdeen Service my worst fears confirmed regarding post Dundee level of service.

Funnily enough, I've recently booked on the forum's website first-class tickets for my wife and I, travelling from GLQ to NCL in January.
We have railcards and the price each is £21.70 .. not bad really !
I used the forum's site to book, so I could add a little extra time at Waverley .. to give us more time as we are in our 60s .. or was it to let us have half hour or so in the first class lounge .. You can decide
