Hi all,

I have a super offpeak (y-p) return from London to Newquay, going out on the sleeper tonight with a berth supplement. The problem is that it was bought for me by work, hence starting from London. I need to travel to/from Winchester.

Tonight I'd like to travel Winchester - London - Par - Newquay, and tomorrow return Newquay - Par - Reading - Winchester.

Can anyone help as to the cheapest way to do this, given the ticket I possess? I would like to come back on an HST via Reading and not a 15x from Exeter.

Since a Newquay - London ticket is presumably valid on SWT services from Exeter via Basingstoke, does that mean I can do Reading - Basingstoke on this ticket?

Argh! and Thanks!

Mark

You would need tickets covering Winchester-London tonight and Reading-Winchester tomorrow for your planned route.

Newquay has one associated Routeing Point, Plymouth. Permitted Routes for Plymouth-London are defined by maps LE, SW+RG, WE, WE+WX, WR, WR+WX, WR+ZZ, ZZ, and ZZ+WR. These allow travel via the WoE line as well as the GWML, as you would expect, but changing at Reading for Basingstoke would not be permitted.

Another option would be to excess your ticket to one which would allow travel via Reading and Basingstoke, but I can't see a map which would allow it.

edit: Splitting at Basingstoke brings the Reading-Winchester fare from £9.10 to £8.45 off peak (more at peak times). I'll leave the Winchester-London leg to others.
