London Midland Trainee Driver Process

Hi! My husband applied for a Trainee Driver postion with LM in Feb, and still hasn't heard from them. If I remember rightly, the assessment days were end of march or early April - so not far off if he needs to book annual leave from work!
His online login on the LM careers website says nothing.

Do you think he's been unsuccessful or is it usual for things to take this long?

It's been something he's wanted to apply for for ages, so we are being very impatient!

Unfortunately it takes time, if you look around this site you will see the many complaints about the process! I am still waiting for an interview with LM after completing the first stage of assessments in December. Don't know why it has gone quiet though, unless someone else who maybe works in LM can enlighten us.

as far as im aware all the courses for this year are full , i have heard that there maybe another course at the end of the year , dont worry to much about the lack of info coming your way this is normal
also it will depend on what depot you have applied for but this is the case at mine

i passed all the assessments for conductor in the middle of 2012. i used to get an email every 6 months thanking me for passing etc but nothing for a while. its now 2014 and still nothing lol

Ive had an email today saying that all external recruitment has been put on hold until further notice due to restructuring.

I got the same email last week too. I had all of my assessments and interviews in July/August, LM's recruitment has a reputation of being inefficient so my advice is start applying elsewhere with those test passes before it becomes too late.

I'm at HeavyHaul now and it's the best decision I've ever made.

Living close to Birmingham London midland and maybe Chiltern are the only 2 viable company`s for me really, can live in hope they start recruiting externally sometime in the future.

Would it not be advantageous to apply for other operational jobs within these companies. Gets your foot in the door and gives you an advantage when other driver vacancies arise

Trouble is, they have put all external recruitment on hold, not just the drivers roles.

The only other company that might advertise for Trainee drivers are Arriva Trains Wales. Virgin and Cross Country only advertise for Qualified Drivers.

I'd forget it for the foreseeable, if I were you. The company is in uproar, what with all the RPI's at risk. Gonna take a little while to sort that mess out, talking to the unions etc.
I heard that even when they do re-open the recruitment window for drivers, that they have more than enough that have passed the assessments internally - there's at least two at my depot that I know of.
There's every chance cobbler will know of a couple at his depot that are the same.

Oh I am well aware of the problems at LM. I wouldn't be wasting my time with them if I was looking for a job on the railway. It just seems people want to go straight into driving when maybe a better / easier route would be another operational grade first then bide your time. The classic route to being a driver if you like
