London Midland service via DC lines?

Just spotted this oddity running on Sunday 10th November:

Is this actually a public service or will it be some sort of staff train?

"Driver Only Operated" - the plot thickens. Either that's wrong, or the train isn't a passenger service... or its not operated by LM, unless they can now work without guards.

Looking at the public timetable, it doesn't look like a real service. Could be wrong tho...

Not really an oddity as such...the train is scheduled to run during the period of the timetable year (09/12/12 - 11/12/13). Can't find a unit allocation for the Sunday just gone (3rd), but the train ran - it arrived Euston on-time.

Seeing as LM don't have any third rail units, I'd guess it's a London Overground train working on behalf of London Midland. Just a guess.

Any LM train operating on the DC lines will be operated by London Overground staff with London Overground trains. The last LM train on a Saturday evening does this. It's on my to-do list, but the 0435 arrival back into MKC from the connecting coach is rather unappealing!

The 350/1 units I believe have out of use 3rd rail shoes. But that's not what is being used.

Yes, it's a 378.

Another clue is that this service is shown as being timed for a 313 (rather than a 321 or a 350 which most LM services would show in that field).

yep, it returns to Watford Junction as the 02:00 ex-Euston

They dont!

They still have the shoe beams fitted but all the actual shoe equipment (shoe, arm etc) have been removed and sent down to Northam for spares, when they were borrowed by Southern a van full of arms were sent back up to be refitted to some 350/1s, when the loan was finished they were removed again.


Now watch somebody post a picture taken yesterday of one with the actual shoe visible under the beam.

They weren't borrowed as such, Its because FCC nicked some of their 377/2s!

It isnt, it is a LOROL 378 operated for LM.

The few remaining LM 150s (being based at Tyseley) never venture south of Bletchley.
