Hi
Does London Midland have conductors on trains out of Euston, and would they be able to sell a "west midlands day ranger" on board?
Ideally I would rather not have to break journey at Northampton but apparently they can only be bought at stations in the area.

Yes they do, bang on the rear cab door loudly and they might venture out. Worth a try.

Also if you have time you can buy the WM day ranger from other stations, I bought mine from Surbiton! (The poor clerk did at first say there was no PRIV discount but he found it in the end!)
Or you could buy it at Euston if you have time, I was checked on an LM service just 10mins out of Euston, so some Guards do ticket checks even before the first stop!

As others have, you can get it at the stations too. In theory, most such products should be available from any ticket office, but staff may not be as familiar with the ones further from their area. A recent one I have seen is a Cheshire Day Ranger issued at Clapham Junction, so it is certainly doable (I myself have had a WMDR issued from a station on the Huddersfield Line...the staff checked a few times they had the right one!)

Sure it wasn't a West Yorkshire Day Rover? The only problem is out-of-area offices might not have special ticket stock that some obscure tickets are supposed to be printed on.

Oh, the irony. A London Overground ticket office managed something from 200 miles away, but a Northern guard whose service ran within the ranger's area? Not a chance!

I believe (but stand to be corrected) out of day tickets, rangers and rovers that it is typically only PTE products that need to be printed on special stock, and even them only some types.

A West Midlands Day Ranger can just go on normal ticket stock.

There's also a West Mids PTE ranger ticket called n-Network Daytripper, which allows travel on Rail, Bus and Tram in the Network West Midlands area. At stations this is issued on special blue ticket stock. On train a 'Daytripper Exchange' is issued on normal orange ticket stock, which should be exchanged at a station if the passenger want to go on the bus too. The bus drivers don't except the tickets on orange stock...

I don't doubt it, but I've heard rather too many stories from passengers and ticket office staff of Bus drivers not accepting orange stock tickets. Guards also get reminded every so often to inform passengers who are sold Daytripper Exchange's that they need to exchange their tickets at a ticket office if they want to go on the Bus.

I'm also related (in law) to a Bus driver who refuses to accept Daytrippers on orange stock tickets, even though I've told him they're valid...

Surely if the ticket is valid its valid, it should be a reasonably simple job to get the bus company to remind drivers its valid, more so than getting customers to exchange the ticket for another for what appears to be no good reason?

After all, bus drivers accept PlusBus tickets on Orange stock?
