London Midland Driver Trainers

HI, I am currently applying to London Midland for trainee driver, and I heard a rumour that there are no vacancies because there are no driver trainers to run the courses. Does anyone know different to this? The reason I'm asking is because I put my application in a while ago and since then I have been offered another year extension in my current job. The only reason I would leave my job is to join a TOC so any info would be great!

I would advise you not to hold your breath. That ad for trainee drivers in the west midlands has been up for ages now and as far as I know there are no current vaccancies for Trainee Driver, the ad is more to collect intrest for future vaccancies. Although I must also stress that looks unlikely for the near future as LM is how to put mildly "broke" The last shambles of a sunday timetable had massive implications, fines etc. DFT have their fingers hovering over the eject button. This means as of late LM are stretching their current resources to the max to the point where simple things like orders of tea and coffee for staff have been cancelled. The franchise will not make it to 2015 under its own steam simply in my opinion.

My friendly advise to you would be to wait for a different TOC vacancy as I wouldn't wish my worst enemy a career at LM. Goodluck to the future! I was lucky to escape the curse of LM and will begin my trainee driver course on the 26th Oct for a different TOC. Try NXEC..they are recruiting soon,and FCC.

Was told NXEC (or whoever it will be) will be recruiting extra staff in relation to December 2010 timetable which has more trains to the likes of Lincoln.

In regards to LM, let's just say that the axeing of Wallsall services etc is just the tip of the iceberg. Some serious money has to be saved, or the whole thing nosedives to DfT.

I must admit to finding the nugget of info about NXEC vacancies interesting..I have a CV in with them presently...is there any more detail to be given on this at all??

In regard to the vacancies advertised on London Midland's website, the secret (which isn't too difficult to work out) is to look at the expiry date. If it's 31st Dec 20xx then the vacancies aren't 'live', indeed if you click on the job title it takes you through to the job description page which states in big bold letters:

"PLEASE NOTE WE CURRENTLY HAVE NO VACANCIES FOR THIS ROLE."

Actual vacancies have a date much closer to the present.

The NXEC information intrigues me also!

Thanks for that Flyboy. I agree its not hard to work out, however I was given the info I stated earlier by a LM driver, and not what everyone can read on a website. Im sure you will agree, like newspapers, you can't believe everything you read on a website?

Well,only going on what one of their inspectors said to me the other week,but he did say they were going to be looking for drivers soon.Whether they are trainee positions or already qualified ones I don't know,he didn't say. I would hazard a guess that they will be London based positions though.

As for FCC,they are always looking out
