Hello all. I'd like some help if possible please, mainly to convince myself I'm not going mad!
I was travelling from Euston to Tring on the 11th May. I planned on getting the 1224 train. This was cancelled. The next train was the 1234. Slightly slower but no problems. I jump on this. At 1235 the conductor announces that the train is being divided from 8 to 4 cars. This takes time. The train departs late and the journey is very slow all the way to Watford Junction. When we arrive there, the conductor announces the train is terminating at Watford Junction (it pulls into a side platform off the normal route) instead of travelling through to Tring. This was roughly 1320. I know this because I had to make my way through the throng of people who had been booted off the 1224 onto the 1234, then booted off the 1234 at Watford in order to catch the Southern Service that departs for Tring at 1321. I just managed to get on this and arrived into Tring at 1339.

My original train, the 1224 is timetabled to arrive in Tring at 1259. I make that a 40 minute delay. London Midland state that the delay was only 20 minutes in their letter. This being the case, what should I do now? Can anybody confirm the train times I have given are accurate please? I took some notes on my phone at the time but I'd appreciate it if they can be backed up with some sort of real time data?

Many thanks in advance for any help

London Midland appear to be wrong. Reply to them and explain they are wrong. In your reply explain your journey exactly as you explained above. Ask them to reassess the claim on the basis you were 40 minutes delayed. The data should be available to them, it appears they just haven't been bothered to check.

I'd put extra emphasis on the 12:24 being cancelled. Looks like they missed that, and assumed the delay between the 12:34 train and the southern service you used in the end.

Thank you for the replies. Does anyone have access to train time data to back up my timings please?

I think I may have answered my own question here. We were all turfed off this service:

1224 http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/G24143/2016-05-11

as we were told it was cancelled.

I then get on this service:

1234 http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/G24696/2016-05-11

which runs late and is ultimately cancelled at Watford Junction. As pointed out previously, I guess they're just looking at the original 1224 which shows as running but 21 late into Tring.

The question is, is there any way I can prove that the 1224 didn't run as a passenger service? Otherwise I fear this will keep going around and around in circles!

Raildar shows that the 1224 train ran on 11 May, it departed Euston 21 minutes late at 1245 and arrived at Tring at 1320.

This departed after the 1234, which left 7 late at 1241, but was cancelled at Watford Junction.

You need to write back to them explaining why you were on the 1234. Don't get your hopes up though. London Midland have a long track record of lying about train statistics to deny Delay Repay claims, they did it on several occasions with me when I used to commute from Apsley.
