I noticed the quote "All successful candidates will be added to our Conductor pipeline", does this mean that there aren't necessarily any immediate vacancies at the moment but they are creating a pool of candidates?

It mentions start dates in 2016 and 2017. I reckon successful candidates will be allocated to fit in with their availability/notice periods and also when depot staff are likely to take retirement or move on to other roles in the company.
Either way, I'm not waiting another 18months, so my application is in!

They've taken quite a few on at Cov in the last 12 months. Some of the older hands moved into management, and a couple are now on drivers courses.

They are certainly active in taking on at the minute.
