Can anyone tell me what services weekdays out of New Street are booked to be worked with a class 153.

I have been told that only 1 Bham - Rugeley service is now booked to operate with a class 153 is this true??

Also is there still a class 153 tagged onto a class 170 on the New Street - Hereford service, and does the Stourbridge - Dorridge service still operate a 3 car class 150 / class 153??

If anyone have any current class 153 London Midland diagrams please can you sumbit or PM me them.

The Hereford diagram (153+170) has recently been changed to 2x170, I know this as I see this train every weekday morning.

There's a 153+150 diagram on the snow hill lines if that helps? I don't have the diagram, but i think it leaves moor st going towards Worcester about 10 or 11?

Try this, 153 could be at either end.

Don't know what will happen when the 172's enter service in a month or two!!!!!!!!

Did see one of them in person Friday on my way down to Guildford, boy it looks uglier than in the picture.

But did see a Super Sprinter on the front of it. Maybe they are going to put Super Turbo-Sprinters on the Snow Hill Lines?

A 172? Was it coupled to the 150? 172s are replacing 150s so I doubt it....

Oh you meant a 153, not a 150!

I hope the DfT force LM to get rid of some 153s if they are keeping some 150s..

LM should have to give at lease 2x153 away as well as all 150s

LM, FGW, Northern and DaFT are still haggling about what ends up where!

I like the LM 153's now they have been tarted up but whatever, as long as we all gain some seats!

If a 172 & 153 couple together will the gangway connectors fit upto each other, somehow the class 172 gangway connector looks bigger than the 153 connector.

Yeah, the 153 from stuck on front of the 172 when we passed it at Tyseley

Can a 153 and a 172 work together then? I thought they couldn't because 153s have hydraulic transimission and 172s have mechanical transmission. I remember reading somewhere else on this site that this was tried with 1st gen DMUs and it resulted in a gearbox explosion.

I agree; otherwise LM are going to have plenty spare Sprinters whilst the rest of us make do with Pacers (and single 153s on some services)

Lots of marginal constituencies in the West Midlands though...

In an ideal world, LM would give away all 150s once 172s get there, and then give away the 2x153s that are on loan to NXEA (did they go back?)

The 172s are meant to replace the 150s (plus LM got all the 170s when Central Trains was split up), so if things are organised properly they shouldn't be keeping 150s *and* 153s

They didn't get all Central's 170s, the 170/1s and 170/3s (except 399 which went to FTPX) and a few 170/5s and 170/6s went to Cross Country. LM got the bulk of the 170/5s and just over half the 170/6s.

Do they really need the 23 or so 170s they have? I'd like to see XC get a few more to lengthen their services, as some of the ones too/from Leicester are ridiculously busy.

You make a valid point, we have:

four of them working on The Chase Line
three of them working to and from Shrewsbury
three of them working to Hereford and Great Malvern

which leaves 13 of them on standby!

Well say we said each service can be doubled, and the rest go to XC that gives XC 3 extra trains! Silly dft.

Are you sure those figures are right?

Presuming they are self contained, the Hereford's require at least 4

I believe they are right.

XC have 29 units and wish to extend some of the services which use 170s to Cambridge.

If the numbers are correct on LMs usage, they currently use ten, which means they could get rid of the entire /6 batch and be left with 17 /5s. Though the reason this probably hasn't been done is the /5s are the 2 car sets. But these could be supplemented with the 153s.

Ideally Bombarbie would build some more 170 coaches, like they did for the 168s, i'm sure XC and LM would snap some up, as well as TPE, FSR and maybe NXEA?

If those figures are anything like correct it's nothing short of scandalous.

Why did we split Central Trains up in the first place, I ask?!

Far to simplistic sorry, add in some units working in pairs and the extras in the morning and evening peaks you will find that they are well utilised.
No TOC is going to lease trains just to leave them in the sidings, the shareholders would not stand it!!!!
