London Midland cancellations (again)

The slightest bit of snow and they are cancelling trains left right and centre. A friend of mine commutes from Hednesford to Birmingham and he was stranded this morning as 3 of their trains were cancelled meaning he either had to wait and hope the trains after 8am would run or catch a bus.

I can understand a train being late in bad weather but cancellation suggests to me once again that LM can't staff the trains they promise to run.

The sooner the DFT or Centro takes the franchise off LM the better!

The cancellations this morning from Hednesford had nothing to do with the snow. A freight train failed at Bloxwich.

Maybe take a look at NRE for a cause of delay before jumping to conclusions. Would love to know how this is the fault of LM too.

Even if this were a staff issue, which as ushawk has pointed out it isn’t, and nor is it down to the snow, how do you envisage that the DfT or Centro would be able to put new drivers and conductors through the recruitment or training process any quicker than London Midland are doing?

Other trains managed to run albeit with a slight delay?

Maybe I should have checked NRE but to be fair any delay on that line is usually down to LM.

Sprinterguy-Do you think its acceptable practice then to advertise in Sept and still have people wondering whether they have 'got through' or not in January? Because everyone I've spoken to thinks it stinks.

I doubt very much they could be any worse then LM.

Unless you are involved with the recuritment process for the rail industry i fail to see how you can make a judgement.

its not like employing someone for ASDA or Macdonalds, which takes months too. Takes 1 YEAR to train a Driver, so.... Good luck.

This is why the annual tally of operator delays is somewhat unfair. A huge proportion of the delays suffered by LM and VT are down to infrastructure issues or other operators; things entirely beyond their control.

The delay to the c16:13 train to Reditch leaving New street was due to one of the on board staff failing to show up on time, causing significant delays to all of the passengers, overcrowded conditions on board and delays to passengers unable to board the train at stations south of New Street.

The reason for the delay was provided by onboard announcements from the operative that did manage to show up.
