172 217 in service to day in and around B'ham, this is the first time i have seen a 2 "card" as we like to call them running on its own! I have seen a 5"card trick" running this week as well and yesterday a 6"card" run past on its way to Brum from Stourbridge!!!!!

Looks likely, I have seen this on 1 or 2 of FGW's class 158's from time to time and i am sure someone has asked the same question on this forum before.

If you only saw one unit with non multi in the window then that would suggest a problem with that unit not the whole fleet.
There can be many reasons for non multi so I don't think the problem is fleet wide

172 332 was out doing mileage accumulation runs yesterday 2nd November 2011, this included running over the Chiltern line from Banbury to High Wycombe and return. It was scheduled to depart from Banbury at 12:22, running as 5Z01 and due to arrive at High Wycombe at 13:14. It passed Haddenham & Thame Parkway at 12:43, three minutes early and was held in the up platform at Princes Risborough for a while. It still arrived early at High Wycombe and departed northbound as 5Z02 at 13:05, due to leave at 13:22. It was stopped south of Princes Risborough until an up Chiltern service had passed and was then put on the new centre road to allow a northbound Chiltern service to pass it. It then departed at 13:26, still well early.

I understand that these runs will be repeated on Friday 4th November and Saturday 5th, though whether with the same unit or not, I don't know.

Bridge bash at Shirley then a train failure at Blakedown plus a couple of other minor issues with units first thing.
So cancellations, delays, short forming etc.

What happened to my 172 this morning (07:46 DTW-WOF)? 150019 turned up in stead though I used the opportunity to go next to the cab of 57220 as it may be my last chance to ride a 150.

Then my train this afternoon (16:07 WOF-WTE) was short-formed of 172215. Later at Droitwich is saw 172213+172214 together and then 172338 with a non-multiple sticker on it.

Had my first trips on 172s this last weekend. The first was on 172339 which left me wondering what London Midland had got themselves into. Although it remained in service all day, it sounded as if it was on its last legs, was very noisy and I was in the last coach which felt as if it was loosely coupled to the other coaches :cry:

After that I found the 172s wonderful and I think they will be very popular with the general public.

Won't be suprised to hear 339 is back for repairs at some point

They went back to Derby though after doing a few driver training and mileage accumulation runs so that they could be fitted with seats, though now that 172332 is out on the southern stretches of the Chiltern line I presume that this has been completed.

I did manage it, completely by luck, fell on it by chance at Smethwick GB with everything else delayed and cancelled. Guard was a very happy man as he'd not taken a train that way in ages! Storming run down with just a Voyager in front. Excellent last hurrah for 150124 with a fast run down the main line!

A variety of 172s were out today on various duties:

172219+172335 together working ex 07:33 WOF-DDG.
I then caught 172344 to WOF.
This evening I caught 17:56 172212+172211 back to DTW.

Things were slightly different today, Friday 4th November 2011, as 5Z01 was reported through Aynho Junction at 12:01, seven minutes late on today's timings. I had to drop everything to get to Haddenham station in time to see it passing through at 12:23.

The units today were 172 332 once again, together with 172 221, the train was due to return from High Wycombe as 5Z02 at 12:56. Not now sure what timings might be for tomorrow, or if indeed the train will run at all...

172 332 mades its (not so good ) first day in service This Morning

this is the 11.10am to worcester , it did not come back due to problems ! normal for a first day

anyone seen 172 221 running out from Tyseley yet ??
it was there yesterday .
