Hi

On Saturday I need to go from Marylebone - High Wycombe. Then on Sunday High Wycombe - Birmingham and then Birmingham - London. Times need to be flexible.

I'd preferably come home on Virgin but not if it's going to cost a lost more

Presumably I need a separate London - High Wycombe ticket on the Saturday? Can I start short on the Super Off Peak via High Wycombe ticket on Sunday? Is this then excess-able to something coming back on Virgin?

I've got a network railcard but assuming that isn't useful

Thanks!

In theory you can break your journey overnight at a time and place of your choosing. We were assured that it was not the intention of the industry to remove this element of choice when the rules were revised in October 2011. In reality, due to the way the rules are worded, you could run into problems if you break your journey in such a manner after starting your journey at, say, Saturday lunch time.

A Route Via High Wycombe ticket can be excessed to a Route Any Permitted ticket in one direction only for half the difference. The excess would be to the appropriate fare so the ticket types need not be the same. There is no break of journey restriction on any Route Via High Wycombe ticket so you may start short if you wish.

Network Railcard is of no use, unless you want to purchase a separate ticket for Saturday.

Thanks! I just spotted the any permitted SSR which I hadn't seen before. So I think I'll book a seat back on the first permitted Virgin on Sunday and then can always use Chiltern if I'm finished a lot earlier than planned.

I don't fancy the arguement on overnight BOJ so I'll just buy a separate ticket on Saturday which is a shame!

Don't see any issue with BOJ as this isn't a ticket where you would be relying on the 'unable to complete your journey on the same day' wording on non-BOJ tickets - it permits BOJ full stop. I'd simply get the £28.90 OPR route via High Wycombe and excess it at Birmingham to the SSR route Any Permitted if you choose to come back that way.

Yes, you would be relying on that wording. The outward portion of the OPR is only valid for one day.
