London - Folkestone

Hello,

I'm thinking of doing a day trip to Folkestone tomorrow for a ride on the RH&DR but I'm finding the fares a bit confusing - journey planners keep forcing me to use HS1 which I don't really want to because of the games.

What is the first train I can get from London Bridge with a Network Railcard and how much is the cheapest day return? Are there any return restrictions?

If anyone can think of any tricks to keep the fare down I'm be keen to hear them.

The first train on which a Network Railcard is valid will be the 1019 from London Bridge (1010 ex Charing Cross) which arrives in Folkestone Central at 1149.

The Off Peak Day Return is £19.95 with discount. I don't think there are any restrictions on return travel.

I haven't managed to find any way to reduce this fare further, but someone else may do!

I did it last week and got off the train at Sandling, waited about 20 mins for the hourly bus service (02 mins from Sandling) to Hythe Light Railway Station, coming back I bussed it to Folkestone.
I have put a small TR on the Trips section.
Good day out.

Unfortunately Kent seems to be one of those places where it's hard to make train travel cheaper by splitting.

Yes, I've tried and failed to find cheaper ways to Folkestone or Canterbury on a few occasions.

Looks like no one has discovered any loopholes!

I went to the races on Sunday (Westenhanger) via HS1, worked out 20p more and well over 2 hours saved. WLC to WHA

I got on at Stratford International and the train was empty (11.49 departure) and 18.13 back from Ashford International was also Empty

This is probably down to the fact that the same operator prices (and runs the trains for) pretty much all fares in the county.
