London - Crewe on Avanti

Hi all,

I’m looking to get up to Crewe on Wednesday the 30th July to get the railtour the following day. The timing isn’t particularly important to me but evening is ideal. However, I can see that the service via Birmingham is priced at £78.00 (3 adults) and the service via the Trent Valley is at least £100. The LNWR train also seems to be £90, which is higher than I expected in comparison with Avanti. This is on Trainpal.

Timings aren’t that important and I’m not in much of a rush.

@Class15. Presume you are looking at 3 x Advance Singles (route "AvantiWestCoast") at £26.00 each, for the one-way journey, for it to add up to £78.00. Do you have any preference as to what you want to be travelling to Crewe (would early morning be too early on the Wednesday?) And how are you getting back to London?

@Class15. Presume you are looking at 3 x Advance Singles (route "AvantiWestCoast") at £26.00 each, for the one-way journey, for it to add up to £78.00. Do you have any preference as to what you want to be travelling to Crewe (would early morning be too early on the Wednesday?)

I’d ideally head up later than that, anything afternoon or evening is fine.

And how are you getting back to London?

From Derby as the tour is one-way and I’m going to the Greatest Gathering there. Probably heading back on 2nd August.

Avanti do a ticket called Superfare if you don’t mind what train you catch. You book it 7-56 days in advance. You stipulate morning, afternoon or evening and about 24 hours before they email which service you’re running on. Euston to Crewe is £14. Tickets are pretty restrictive e.g must travel on that train, no break of journey, no changes or amendements allowed. But if it’s purely price you want to reduce. It’s an option

There appear to still be Advance single fares readily available for a number of middle of the day xx46 departures on Wednesday 30JUL2025 from London Euston to Crewe, (Route "AP LNR&WMR ONLY") priced at £31.50 (= 3 x £10.50) which seems quite cheap. However, you will be travelling with West Midlands Trains, not Avanti. Journey time is 2 hours 8 minutes. Thoughts?

Thank you very much - I’ll have a look into it but I’d rather know in advance when to leave so that might not be ideal.
