Hello,
Can anyone help with a detailed fare question?

My friend has a ticket from London to Coventry - I assume a LM only or similar as she says it is only valid on the 'slow trains that stop at Milton Keynes' though I haven't seen it myself. She is travelling out on a weekday and back on the next, it is not an advanced ticket.

Is it possible to excess the return portion (or something similar) at Coventry ticket office to permit a return via Oxford? If she does this, is a break of journey permitted at Oxford?

Assuming all of this is possible, is it likely that she will be questioned on doing something 'odd' en-route as I don't want to suggest something that could result in a dispute....

Without knowing more details, it is very difficult to say, as the description she gives really doesn't mean very much.

However if she has a Route Ldn Midland Only ticket then it cannot be excessed in this way as it is operator specific.

Would it be possible to excess the ticket (overdistance/over-riding) one stop further, and in doing so, request the route be Any Permitted on the new ticket?

I don't know.

However with a change of route XS, any route-specific ticket excessed to Any Permitted retains the original operator restriction. Not sure about over-riding. This may be seen as a bit of a loophole depending on your perspective should it be permitted.

Some people argue that Condition 10 applies, but I have no desire to get into another debate. I am just stating the official view.
