What an unusual partnership. Can you imagine the AA and Royal Mail joining forces to operate an inter-city coach network in the UK?!?!
I would have thought that Stagecoach would be getting in on the act, especially given their recent foray into international services and Souter (outside of Stagecoach) has set up Polskibus for Poland domestic services and some cross-border routes. Likewise National Express.
There is never going to be an ideal location. A Central London interchange means dealing with central London traffic. Move out to the periphery and you inconvenience those on the opposite sides, and a number of smaller peripheral coach stations would be far from ideal. I think a central interchange with some services calling additionally at locations such as Hammersmith and Golders Green is the best we can hope for.
If we consider the changes in size of coaches, travel habits and the roads from 1932 when it opened to the present day it has certainly done well. The use of the former Samuelson's garage for arrivals has helped but the amount of usable space has been reduced on safety grounds as you no longer walk between lines of coaches to find yours ready for a mass departure as occurred certainly up till the 1980s.

I do like the layout of Victoria coach station, although for me coming from Cardiff, it is a LONG journey. It takes three and a half hours, the train takes two hours.
Also, I agree that the tube/bus/rail connections could be better; at present you have to walk down Buckingham Palace Road and access Victoria Station via Victoria Place, which is a bit of a problem when you have large cases.
I'm travelling by coach on Saturday and will have to make my way to the tube station. Luckily I'm only doing an overnighter so won't have much luggage but not particularly looking forward to the coach journey, I must admit! They have got double deckers on the route though so should be good!

And as the most deregulated form of transport, coach companies would probably have moved elsewhere by now if they thought it would improve matters.
