I want to go to Cardiff on Saturday 25th, but not at the extravagant walk up fare of £70.50.
I looked at splitting down but would appreciate if somebody could check what I'm proposing is valid

Annual Gold Card z1-4
Boundary Z4 - Didcot Parkway CDR £9.55
Didcot Parkway - Swindon CDR £10.30
Swindon - Cardiff Bay CDR £19.30

It appears that the Swindon-Cardiff ticket is Valid via Bristol Temple Meads, so was planning on going that way on the way there but my planned train, the 08:00 Paddington-Bristol TM doesn't stop at Didcot.
I think this would be permitted under NRCoC 19(C) as the first ticket is a travelcard season, am I right?

Also, as the days are longer I was wondering about coming back from Cardiff-Swindon via Chepstow, Gloucester & Kemble which looks permitted on map LW, but National Rail website appears to be saying this needs 2 tickets for this journey.

Thanks

Correct, those tickets are valid under Condition 19(c) as:
  1. They cover the whole of your journey, and
  2. One of the tickets is a season ticket, and the others are not

I would be prepared to explain the validity as although most guards will understand the validity in the case of two tickets, some may query this combination.

Cardiff-Swindon via Gloucester is an entirely cromulent route, and you should have no problems here.

Great! Thanks for that.
I might just take a printout of the relevant page of the NRCoC with me just in case
