The Tesco has taken a knock from from the new much larger centre of town Sainsbury - which also provides free parking for the town centre and the smaller town centre Tesco

The Tesco that's being knocked down is being replaced by a bigger one on the other side of the road, to make way for the Bicester Village expansion. Which is also supposed to be paying for road improvements to relieve the much-complained-about congestion. Said congestion might get worse when commuters start parking at the Town station when the new chord opens.

Does anyone know if the arabic and chinese signs at Bicester North station say 'Welcome to London Bicester North'

Incidentally, back on topic, I can remember Portsmouth services always went to 'Waterloo', but that changed to 'London Waterloo' some time around the mid 80s. Doubt that it was standardised until recorded announcements came in though.

Are these stations with particularly high moral standards?

One may even be a paragon of such.

I was at Norwich on Saturday overhearing some confused American tourists when told the train was going to terminate at Stratford, and they didn't know where Stratford was and if they had to use the subway to get into London.

Newport appears to be in England - at least on my 1967 BR Regional Boundaries Map.

Newport was legally in England until 1974. The usual term was Wales and Monmouthshire.

The local government act 1972 established Gwent as part of Wales.

You've then got the two London Road stations, neither of which are in London, and don't always have the place they are actually in referred too. Officially they are called London Road(Brighton) and London Road(Guildford) but locally they're often just referred to as London Road.

Not read the whole thread so this may have already been mentioned Why don't they rename the stations, Waterloo (London), Victoria (London), Victoria (Manchester).

Interestingly TFL drop the London from their stations do it'd Waterloo, Victoria, Euston etc. I wonder if that confuses tourists, given the stations above do have London in the title.

I am fairly certain it doesn't help when searching on the TFL planner and you accidentally put in London before the names.

Well, London Bridge is a stupid name anyway... '(London) Borough Market' would be better.

As for the two 'London Road' stations, the one in Guildford could become 'Stoke Park'; or simply name both after the areas they serve rather than a road.

Why change the name. It's less confusing if you do that! Lol.

Many years ago there use to be a joke about being lost at Waterloo whilst trying to locate your platform. I forget the exact quote now. Back then Waterloo East was just called Waterloo and a line ran through the concourse joining up the mainline and the Waterloo East line.

Recently I was in Woking and I overheard someone say that someone was due to pick them up from the station. Unfortunately they had gone to Wokingham! Oops. Lol.

I have no problem at all with the main termini in London having the name London in the title. We have Liverpool Lime Street up here, and even Liverpool South Parkway down the road. The likes of London Luton or Frankfurt Hahn do my head in. On a recent trip to Krakow my girlfriend booked the flights, she booked with Wizzair to Krakow Katowice airport which is nowhere near Krakow and isn't even that close to Katowice. By the time we paid for transport to Krakow the Ryanair and Easyjet flights to the airport at Balice would have worked out cheaper.

Interesting as I have street atlases from the 1930s or later which still show the link line. Good to see they were on the ball with keeping their maps up to date. Lol.

I wonder what health and safety would think of such a line now!

The reference I read to the Waterloo platform confusion would have been much older than the maps. Possibly from Dickens Dictionary of London, 1883 5th edition.
