So, I'm writing yet another report, this time on my way to Italy with the parentals.
Got on the National Express 509 at Cardiff at 15.00, and got to London Victoria for 18.30. We arrived bang on time, which was surprising considering we were going into London smack in the middle of rush hour. At Victoria, we walked to the station and topped up Oysters, and we waited until 19.00 in order to get the Off Peak Prices. We boarded a Victoria Line train to Kings Cross, and checked into our hotel.
We then made our way back to the tube station and boarded a Northern Line train to London Bridge, which is on the Bank branch, the first time I've covered this. By this point, it was nearly 8pm, but yet the tube was still packed full of commuters; this just shows how busy and global London is. The Northern Line seems to be very slow. At London Bridge, we changed over to the Jubilee Line to North Greenwich. I was surprised to see, upon exiting, that it was pitch black, which at first we didn't want because we thought the Cable Car would be pointless in the dark. However, the walk from the station to the O2 is lovely.
We made up way to the Cable Car, and boarded Pod 9. Fair play, the views in the night are absolutely out of this world. Canary Wharf looks absolutely stunning, and the whole of London is a gorgeous lit up blur. Hats off go to my mother, who despite not being great with heights, still went on the attraction, which reaches 295 feet, and said she enjoyed it!
We exited at Royal Victoria and got some quick provisions in the Tesco Express opposite. We then made our way to the DLR station, where units 36, 84 and 55 took us to Shadwell. The DLR was practically empty at this point and we purposely made our way right to the front of the train so that we could see out of the window. It is so much fun and my parents were really awe inspired by this.
However, I have previously made journeys from Royal Victoria to Stratford, but I have changed at Poplar. Today, I noticed that there are direct services to Stratford International, thus having to change at Poplar. Next time, I know that I don't need to change at Poplar.
As we needed to get to Bank, to catch the Northern Line back to Kings Cross, we required a quick change at Shadwell. Luckily, unit 113 (with another two units attached behind, which I didn't see unfortunately) arrived and took us the short dstance to Bank. Again, it was empty and we sat right in the front. This is probably one of my favourite lines on the entire London network. The tunnel it goes in is incredible! Wow. It's incredible. It's a bloody long one too.
We then arrived at Bank and made our way back on the Northern Line to Kings Cross, where I'm now ready for bed!
Tomorrow morning I'll be on Eurostar 9080, the 0540 to Paris, followed by TGV 6175 (1047 Paris to Nice), TER 86047 (1655 Nice to Vintimille/Ventimiglia) and Trenitalia 6221 (1816 Ventimiglia to Diano Marina). Will continue my report tomorrow evening.
Thanks for reading!

Apologies for the lack of updates on this trip; as I'm sure you can understand it is expensive using internet abroad and of course you don't really want to be spending your holidays on your phone or internet constantly! I do hope to finish this report on either Thursday or Friday.
However, in the meantime, please feel free to follow my Twitter page, just set up today, which includes all my travels. I'm planning on noting where I am, how a particular train journey is going, unit numbers (e.g. just boarded 390001 on 1B24 1350 Birmingham to Euston), pictures and if need be I'll also be asking questions about certain rail data and about the towns in which I visit, both nationally and internationally, so if you are from the area I just so happen to be in or if you know the area well, then please sell yourself to me with your knowledge!
Someone on the forum (I can't remember who though, unfortunately) made a Twitter account for an All Line Rover trip they were doing and I thought it was a brilliant idea. I followed their whole trip and was most interesting.
Although I haven't done an All Line Rover yet (I plan to once I've saved up), I make lots of separate trips anyway so I hope that you'll find them interesting, if you decide to follow me.
This new Twitter page I've set up will feature the return of my trip to Italy and also a trip up to Blackpool on Saturday, as well as my regular commutes to Bristol for uni. I'll also be including trams and buses, just to add more interest.
Anyway, my Twitter is as follows: @djb_travels. I've also got my own personal Twitter which I've had for nearly four years, which I use daily and have reached nearly 4,000 tweets on, but that's just my own non-railway life so I don't think any of you will be interested in that!
Again, apologies for the lack of updates on this trip, I will update it when I get home and I can do it on my laptop where it is far easier to type long threads.
For those of you who are not on Twitter, or for those of you who have got an account but don't really tend to use it for various reasons, then I'll still be uploading my reports on here anyway
Hope to see you on my Twitter page! I'd really appreciate a few followers; I thoroughly enjoy sharing my trip reports and as I said earlier I hope you enjoy them
Regards,
Dan
