Hi all,

Trying to book this journey but it seems Eurostar opens for reservations earlier than Thalys does. As. Result by the time Eurostar will accept a through booking many of the cheaper fares on the Eurostar component have gone.

So, I am considering two separated bookings. How does this work if my Eurostar or Thalys service is delayed?

Any other tips?

Even when the booking windows are open the Eurostar price is often higher than booking both parts separately despite the idea that it should combine the two cheapest fares.

Basically, you are covered for a through journey even on two tickets - certainly if you buy them at the same time off the same website - provided you allow for minimum connection times of course.

I'd be surprised if you lost out significantly by waiting a month to book London-Brussels, except maybe on the very busiest services/days - compare ES fares 3 months and 4 months ahead and decide.

Eurostar is a member of Railteam. As such if the Eurostar is very late, they ask you to go and meet the train crew in the buffer car, and will stamp your onward ticket with a recognisable stamp to show the onward operator. This is a corporate promise to let you on the service following the booked service that you have missed.

I took advantage of this a year or so ago, although it didn't get me a seat on the following TGV as it was so full, but I was allowed to travel
