Sorry it's short notice.
Just found out fromm LM site that the 1146 train to crewe will only run to northampton but mines an advanced ticket to stafford . I need to be in Stafford by 1415 to get a separate ticket i bought on xc to manchester.
what wil i be able to do?
I was thinking of getting there early asnd seeing if i can travel at 1045 and just wait the hour in stafford if they allow it.

Best bet i would advise would be to get to the station at 10:25 and speak to the staff and the conductor on the 10:45 to see if they will allow you on.

some conductors on FGW have allowed to to travel on an earlier service. Last year i went to trave on the 06:25 Cardiff - London service then travel on the tube to Liverpool St. Sadly this service was 20 minutes late as it was delayed leaving Swansea so i spoke to the conductor on the 05:55 service who kindly let me travel on that train.

i hope they'll let me travel on the 1045 otherwise im screwed! i'll miss my xc connection which is a separate ap ticket

Speak to the LM staff at the station your ticket begins at. Explain the situation, and i'd imagine they'd write you a note explaining they have granted permission to use a different service.

This is what usually should happen when something prevents you from taking the train'you were booked for.

Ask the staff if you can travel earlier or if there are alternative arrangement (if you're lucky Virgin will accept them for example)

If you're willing to change in Birmingham you can do £19.40 with Chiltern to Moor St and £9.00 from New St to Stafford.


Since London Midland are unable to honour your ticket you can get a full refund. I would argue on the grounds that your reservation is not being honoured by finishing short

if the train you intended to use is cancelled, delayed or your reservation will not
be honoured, you decide not to travel and at that time you return the unused
ticket to any ticket office, the Train Company responsible for that ticket office will,
if it is in a position to do so, give you an immediate full refund as shown in
Condition 27.

You will be allowed on the 1046 if you so wish

Firstly, you can try ask to be let onto the 1045. I would expect LM to be more lenient during such times, especially considering the fact that Delay Repay is in operation as normal, as otherwise they would have to fork out compensation for your whole journey (to wherever your destination is on your ticket from Stafford). However I believe that you have no obligation to do so.

If your original itinerary left sufficient time for connection at Stafford (5 mins), then yorkie has some excellent quotes from some useful people that two advance tickets do constitute one journey and that should you be delayed on your first leg, you will be allowed to catch the next service to complete your second leg. As the whole situation is the railway's fault, you do not need to pay anything extra to do your journey as you originally planned, ie. start at 1146.
