Does anyone know if there are any infrastructural railway remains of either the railway station or parts of the line of the former Nidd Valley Light Railway still available to see there.

Medically, I am unable to travel there for some time yet, so any information will be invaluable to me.

There still seems to be a station pub there? Original:'The Station'

Think you have the wrong Loftus. The one in Nidderdale is actually Lofthouse (but no doubt pronounced Loftus) and the local pub is The Crown (not to be confused with the Crown in nearby Middlesmoor - I once arranged to have a family gathering in the Lofthouse one and everyone found it easily enough except my brother and his brood who ended up in Middlesmoor. Pre-mobile phone days so it was a bit of a faff to find out where they were.)

The trackbed is easy to follow on Google maps. This is Lofthouse Station on streetview.

I am most indebted to you for the information and images contained within the submitted link. Hopefully, this summer will see me well enough again to make a visit there.

I hope so too. Fantastic part of the world. The view across Gouthwaite as you head up the valley is just wonderful.

And if driving to Pateley Bridge, although all access route provide great views, I'd recommend approaching along this road as it gives stunning views up the nidd valley towards "Loftus".

The photo below shows the station building from the opposite (road) side to the one in the link above, albeit somewhat altered by the addition of a balcony!

PS It's actually 'Lofthouse' although all the locals pronounce it 'Loftus' - which is actually rather further north-east close to the coast!
PPS - Ah! IanD got there while I was finding the image on GeoGraph.

The name in the title thread now reads Lofthouse-in-Nidderdale

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

Once again, many thanks for all this information. IanD, I have noted the suggested driving route and my wife says you are quite correct regarding the views obtained when driving along that particular road.

I must try to ensure that this closed railway station features upon a future leg of the "Closed Stations Journey" quiz.

There is information about the NER's Nidderdale branch and the Nidd Valley Light Railway in "Railways around Harrogate" by Martin Bairstow, published by him in 1986, ISBN 0 9510302 3 X (may now be referred to as 'Vol 1' as he's since published two other books about railways in the Harrogate area!)
A photo in this book shows the Lofthouse station building with an external staircase to a 1st floor door where the balcony is, so perhaps it hasn't been added since closure. The book says that the station buildings at Wath and Ramsgill also still survive as well as Lofthouse.
A number of stations on the NER branch to Pateley Bridge also survive as private residences, including the large building at Pateley Bridge which is now sheltered accommodation.
