Locomotive collection

I've been to a local model railway show today and hit on the idea of starting a collection of my favourite locos. I did intend to build a layout years ago, but family life and other things got in the way. Plenty of trade stands there and I started my collection off with Deltic 55022 RSG in blue which I got for a steal of a price.

The standard of models on the market is getting better and better, but of course this means a higher price. Still, eBay and trade meets normally have some very good bargains.

Good points 142094. There's no way I could afford prices of new locos. Keeping my eyes peeled for local shows and checking local shops who sometimes sell secondhand. Must admit I never considered ebay as I've heard a few scary stories from friends who had tried to buy off there.

I buy loads off ebay and as long as you take a little bit of care (reading the discription carefully is a good start) its fine.

Good trick is to look for the spelling mistakes on eBay - such as Honrby instead of Hornby. Less people looking and normally get a bargain. Also, from time to time you get someone who is clearing out old stuff and doesn't exactly know what type of model it is, and gives a vague description along the lines of "Hornby BR locomotive" (so not something like Hornby 00 gauge Class 60 BR locomotive in EWS livery).
