In France and in the US there are lockers at railway stations, but in the UK, I don't think there are any.
The reason why I ask, is that I will be spending 6 hours in London before I go to Gatwick and don't want to lug my suitcase around.
Are there any lockers? What if I ask the guys in the lost property office and give them a tip for looking after my suitcase for a few hours.
Many thanks.

Left luggage costs an arm and a leg so always resent paying for that. If I'm at Kings Cross or St. Pancras I nip into the British Library and use the lockers there for a £1 deposit

Only station I know of with still with lockers: Oban. Perhaps a few others (Inverness? Fort William?) lurking about though.

I recall reading that posters have occasionally persuaded budget hotels near stations to look after luggage for a small fee.

They used to be much more common but most disappeared after one of the security scares.

Several major stations have a left luggage facility.

Here are the details for London Victoria, and here's a map and photo.
For what it's worth, should the OP (or anyone else for that matter!) wish to leave their bags in the Victoria area, they would find TfL's left luggage facility at Victoria Coach Station cheaper than the one on the Network Rail station. For 2-24 Hrs this is charged at £4 per item under 20kg or £6 per item over 20kg, compared to £9 per item at the railway station. It's open 07.00 - 22.45 (the railway station one is open 07.00 - Midnight).
