Hello everyone. I would like to know if a Lockerbie to Edinburgh Park ticket is valid via Glasgow.
A quick look on the Routeing Guide (from Carstairs to Edinburgh Routeing Group) shows the maps for the route can be either EC or SR.

Map EC on the left, map SR on the right:

Additionally, I have found two itinerates for Lockerbie to Haymarket via Glasgow, but it doesn't return any searches to Edinburgh Park. However, Haymarket and Edinburgh Park are in the same routeing group (Edinburgh Group) so surely if the ticket is valid via Glasgow to Haymarket, then it would be valid via Glasgow to Edinburgh Park too?

What makes it more confusing is that I asked TransPennine, ScotRail and National Rail Enquiries this question and in a nutshell, they said:

TPE: "ask ScotRail"
ScotRail: "not via Glasgow but it is valid if you change at Motherwell"
NRE: "check back closer to your travel time"

So, forum, is the ticket valid via Glasgow?

Providing you take the route given, i.e. via Shotts, it's traceable on map SR

It's valid providing you travel via Shotts, because there is no doubleback detected when taking that route.

(There is a potential doubleback between Newton and Glasgow Central, but Newton and Cambuslang are not called at by either service and are not timing points, so the double back is not detected)

There is almost zero chance of any of the TOC social media teams knowing this, hence why you weren't able to get an answer via Twitter.

Also just to add there is an easement:

Easement 700267
Customers travelling via Carstairs to Uddingston, Bellshill, Holytown and beyond in possession of tickets routed "Any Permitted" may double back between Newton and Glasgow Central. This easement applies in both directions.

So even if the doubleback is detected, it's valid :)

Is this just a clunky way of saying that trains direct to Edinburgh Park (from Glasgow) depart from Queen Street? :s

ScotRail's has responded and they said it's only valid if you go direct (so no Break of Journey?) from Queen Street.

I would say that tweet additionally validates the route via Queen Street; under contract law you can be granted an additional rights in this manner.

A tweet cannot remove a right however.

The route via Queen Street is reasonable and ought to be permitted anyway
