Decided to catch the scheduled ca. 2328 from Worcester Foregate Street to Shrub Hill near to where I live - due to health issues that would have been exacerbated by a walk up a fairly long steep hill.

Checked on the Trainline app which showed that there was a service scheduled to run.

On attempting to enter either entrance at Foregate Street - found that they were locked or barricaded as staff were mopping floors.

Had to alert one of the staff members - and explained the situation. They were fine and allowed me access in to catch the service. A bit rum that a station was seemingly locked down before the service of the night…

Were there no other doors open, or just the normal route?

I panicked at Kings Lynn once when I was already desperately close to missing the last train, and found the doors locked. Only to discover a side door unlocked

Similarly, once at Ely all the normal routes were locked & along with a bus full of passengers we ended up going via the bin compound

That train calls at Worcester Foregate Street to set down only. It doesn't pick up. That was why you maybe found the doors locked.

That explains it - thanks for confirming. Strange that Trainline was showing there was a scheduled service - I assume this was down to a glitch in the matrix.

Interestingly, the last train of the day from Worcester Foregate Street to Worcester Shrub Hill on a Sunday (departs at around 2323) doesn't appear to be "set down only" calls at Worcester FS, whereas the ones on Saturday (at 2329, which is presumably the one the OP is referring to) and midweek (2344) are set down only.

They never were set down only in the week either. Im not really sure why they are now.

So they can shut the station earlier? If there are almost no passengers, which seems likely, they might have decided it wasn't worth keeping it all open for an extra half an hour.

Maybe not so much “not worth it” but it means they can keep undesirables out. Anyone arriving by train can be let out, but they don’t have to let people in.

I think that may be exactly it. They do get a lot of anti social problems at Foregate Street.

Well you used Trainline. If you want the most accurate information then use National Rail (nb not always right, but far closer). Lost count of the number of times I have seen people with materially wrong info - up to and including tickets sold for trains they are not valid on - issued by Trainlie. 3rd party service = 3rd line quality

National Rail, TOCs and third parties all use the same information. Maybe the problem was with the timetable data.

This is incorrect and I agree with @ThisIsSurbiton

It will be an industry data issue rather than a Trainline issue.

No doubt this topic will run to 7+ pages similar to the "Passengers locked inside Hartlepool Station" with no agreed upon acceptable resolution

This thread was resolved in that the last train was set down only, but the OP was allowed into the station to access it.

The Hartlepool thread remains unresolved not least bc we were not told anything of the official side of the story e.g. were Control ever contacted by the security guard (or come to that the police or his own management), and the local press seemed to have lost interest in following up.
