Loch Carron on the Kyle line

A quick question about "the" location on the shores of Loch Carron where the Kyle line runs across a stone single arch bridge on a rock encased embankment with a sharpish curve.

I am doing a painting of a train bound for Kyle at this location, and I would like to know whether, if you had a train on this line that was longer than normal ( say 200m long ) and the front of the train, top and tail locomotive hauled, was on the embankment at such a position that the rear of the leading carriage was directly over the arch, would the back of the train reach round the curve far enough that it should also be in the picture?

Sorry, I don't know the exact name of the location, but I think most of you will know the bridge I mean? Google Earth searching is inconclusive, I *think* I have found the right bridge but I'm not 100% sure...

Thank you, yes - that is the location. I just knew the answer would be on this forum.

The picture of the Western seems closest to the angle I am doing the painting from, so it is very good to see the hills to the right because they are just off the limit of the picture I am working from, so now I know how steep to continue the one at the side.

As to the train length - it does look as if the rear of the train would be just in the picture, although the vegetation has obviously grown a bit since the picture I am using as a colour and angles reference was taken. The one I am using for this purpose appeared on the front cover of a calendar in 2000 and shows a 37 with the cream and green Mk2s, but I am putting a completely different train in, and there is a degree of artistic licence involved as I don't think the train I am painting has ever actually been on the Kyle line...

And yes, I'll post up a picture of the painting when it's done.

It's almost finished; hopefully by the end of this month....

Meanwhile, here is the current status of the picture. Apologies for the awful quality of the photo - it's done quickly on an instant camera and the flash bounced from a mirror giving double illumination, hence why it's over-exposed...

And although on this image the train looks like it is in Metropolitan Railway livery, it isn't - honest! On the actual painting the colour is pretty much spot on to the actual.

I think it is now obvious which particular train is my subject?

And I don't suppose anyone here has a photograph of it from approximately the angle I am depicting it, please? Just to be 100% sure that I am getting all the details in the right place - as you can see, it is only really the details of the train itself ( and the trackbed plus minor foreground details ) which I have left to paint now.


Rest assured - when the painting is completed, the image I post up of it will be a high quality digital version.

I'm having this painting professionally scanned and put onto disk ( the file size will apparently be 100Mb...!! ) so that I can get prints made from it at some point.

This is an expensive process ( £75 plus the cost of any prints ) but for this painting I think it will be worth it.
