I think FPTP is broken. I think PR is still the best alternative. But there are pitfalls. Really you'd need a floor, say 15% of the popular vote, to thin out the, er, 'niche' parties.

15%!? In other words vote Labour or vote Tory, otherwise your vote counts for nothing (based on 2017 GE). 1.5% would clear out the niche parties!

As someone who runs a business on one of the many Kirklees Markets, its quite evident that Kirklees Council have cut back too much (followed by blaming the Tories for Labours own overspending) as there's no one to sweep up at the end of the day nor are there any trade waste bins for traders to put their waste into as they use to.

Of course, any council blaming the Tory government for having to cut back are bang on when you consider how much central government funding has been cut in the last 8 years.

Crikey has no one got a sense of humour on here?, it was a lighthearted dig at the remoaners who were demanding another referendum because the EU vote didn't go their way, it was not in any way a serious suggestion.

Of course I have no "evidence" which is why I used a conditional verb.

Dictators are not well known for placing their intentions in their manifesto before the last election they enter.

Wasn't he at an event the other day celebrating 200 years since the birth of Karl Marx, boosting how it was influencing Corbyn Labour.

Do people really want that sort of Labour Government? I certainly don't and will never vote Labour while Corbyn, McDonnell are around but of course they are counting on the fact that many people will not look too deeply and vote Labour regardless. and if they do get in many people who voted Labour who are not hard core lefties will regret it in a big way very soon I think. and as for McDonnell being a dictator well lets just say once they get in I wouldn't trust that they will be easy to get out.

I'm not sure that any of the crazy communist dictatorships that have existed are quite what Karl Marx had in mind. He certainly knew what he was talking about regarding capitalism though. It did raise a lot of people out of poverty but it is starting to eat itself.
