Hi all,

I'm just wondering if this would be possible, although would probably need some new infrastructure. But, a service from West Croydon to Clapham Junction via Sutton. It would follow the line West Croydon to Sutton, then to Wimbledon upto Clapham Junction. Obviously pathing might be an issue.

Directly via Earlsfield? Almost impossible, with the SWML being paired by direction at that point you’d never get it across the down lines. It would be an even bigger problem with Crossrail 2 in place.

Can't see the point IMO

Unless Southern trains take over the TL services on the Wimbledon-Sutton loop but then where would they go after Wimbledon? There is no link to the SWT lines (from memory) and even if there was one, it would conflict badly with SWT metro services. The only option would be to continue back to Streatham and thence on to Clapham - unless...

Analogous to the Kingston Roundabout services to/from Waterloo, maybe a Victoria - West Croydon - Sutton - Wimbledon - Streatham - Clapham Junction - Victoria "Roundabout" service, but again, only if TL trains didn't serve the loop any more

Another point is that none of the approaches from the outer areas towards Clapham Junction really allow for terminating and reversal of services. About the only possibility is P16/17, but that still requires a crossing of the ‘Southern’ Down Slow...

This should go via Southfields and Wandsworth Town to Clapham Junction. Those proposals to extend the District Line to Sutton have always been looking at it the wrong way round!

. Obviously pathing might be an issue.

Quite the understatement!

What need would it fulfill?

Sitton already connected directly to Croydon and Wimbledon.

Wimbledon and Croydon directly connected by Tramlink.

Sutton/Wimbledon to Zone 1 faster via other routes. Sutton to ELL already an easy change at West Croydon.
