I bought two London Northwestern Railway/West Midlands Railway Liverpool - Birmingham Stations Advances Singles at my local station on Saturday (on CCST).

Although the tickets state "Specified trains & LNR/WMR connections only", there is no actual information shown for which service (time) these tickets are valid! Is there any possibility that this could cause a problem if there is a ticket check?

I did call the LNR helpline to ask this, but although polite, the customer service person was hopeless.

Can you upload a picture of your tickets? Include any accompanying tickets the machine printed.

Yes, there's definitely an issue there. Possibly an issue with the ticket office machine's software. You could raise it with Merseyrail or WMT for help; hopefully they'll get back to you with something useful before you travel.

That being said, ultimately there's no other coupons referred to on the ticket so you aren't missing anything. I would simply explain the above to the guard/RPI if anyone asks any questions - the fact you've got in touch would definitely count for something.

These look like the format of advances that print the itinerary on the ticket. The large area of blank space should probably have your itinerary printed on it.

I have heard of this happening on WMT before though I forget the reason why*. I would suggest carrying a copy of your itinerary with you, ideally printed knowing Merseyrail's prejudices (though do they or Northern staff the mainline gateline at South Parkway?) to prove what your booked trains were and stick to them. Though if they work the gatelines it's quite possible you might not have any interaction with staff anyway, WMT staff are not renowned for bothering to check tickets unless the RPIs are out.

* I think there was some stuff-up with quotas and reservations or the booking site (one of those) which meant these faulty ones were genuinely issued with no mandatory booked trains at all in the itinerary, or something like that, i.e. the whole thing is an "&connection", and when you book "&connections" Advances issued on CCST the connecting trains are never printed on the ticket.

Thanks for all your replies.

These were part of a split, but after posting, I found-out the (already reduced) onward Cross Country services to/from BHM on Saturday have since been cut-back even more today, so the planned return wasn't possible anymore.

Merseyrail have refunded all my tickets in full this afternoon.
