My wife was due to travel from Wakefield Westgate to London on Saturday on an advance ticket. Now she is trying to change the ticket for free to the following Saturday 2nd July as LNER is supposedly allowing. However just about all the trains say 'sold out' even though advance fares are still available on them if you try the normal booking process rather than amending the journey. Any ideas why LNER's app and website are not allowing her to change the ticket?

If her train has been cancelled and the next available one gets her to London 61+ minutes later, she is entitled to have the ticket re-issued for a later date of her convenience, without any additional charge.

If there is an alternative that gets her there within 61 minutes, she is limited to taking the next available service or else to get a full refund and rebook - unless LNER are choosing to offer something more generous than this.

Her train home has been cancelled which had been booked as a split ticket. LNER is offering rebooking up to 7 days later for those without an issue. However I had not realised this only applies to the return journey presumably because the outward journey is not cancelled and was booked as a through ticket so not directly linked with the return journey in the system. I wonder if it would still see it as separate journeys if both had been booked together as through journeys in opposite directions.

This is probably the complicating factor; I would contact their customer services and see what they come back with.

All Advances can be refunded to a voucher under the Book with Confidence scheme. I would do this and then rebook separately.
This only works if the new tickets are cheaper than what was originally paid though right? Otherwise they'd be out of pocket for the extra the new tickets cost
