I have received a job alert for this position. I currently have an application submit for the recent trainee driver position at Edinburgh but don't think I'll hear back about it going by another thread on here.

Question is would this be a job worth pursuing with the long term ambition of becoming a train driver.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Do you want to be a Train Manager? If the answer is yes, then apply for it. If it's no, and you are only doing it in the hope of getting a drivers job I wouldn't recommend it. Yes you are more likely to pass the application stage and go through to psychometrics, but only about 20% of people pass the psychometrics.

I appreciate your feedback. My end goal is to become a driver one day and give myself the best chance, I am questioning myself if I really want to be Train Manager. Wow! 20%, I didn't it was that low! Thanks again.

Good evening, I’m wondering if anyone has applied for this recent vacancy? I completed the AI questions and video interview but haven’t received a follow up email stating success or failure?

Just wait and see. As role doesn’t close until the 16th for the Edinburgh role. Imagine done the TM assessment then as said done the AI interview and the Video one.

Was more curiosity if anyone else had applied as close to deadline and also thinking strange been over a week for AI interview and no response, better just to know others in the same boat as yourself.

I think I found out pretty quickly I was through to the next stage after doing the videos but speaking to others on my course they didn’t find out for a while.

For any that submit an AI video I believe the ones that “hit the markers” are then watched by someone in the recruitment team who then decide if it goes to the next stage or not.

Good luck to anyone who’s applied.

I got a email on Friday saying that I'll be doing the Psychometrics testing on the 2nd or 3rd of April. This is for Edinburgh.

I’m sure I’ve heard there’s at least 1 other starting from Edinburgh but they’re internal, they’ll likely join you after the first 2 weeks of the welcome to.

Get used to the hotel life for the 6 weeks after you start, it’s tough!

I really enjoyed the psychometrics part, only advice I can give is practice with the test papers you get given although the test papers had numbers/letters for me, the actual ones have different kind of shapes.

The SCAAT test is done on paper, start on page 1 looking for one symbol, make your way down the page then you’ll get asked to move onto a fresh sheet. Same with the next one where you’re looking for the same symbols but twice then 3rd is looking for one same symbol and an alternate symbol per line.

Best advice is generally take your time, there’s no way you’ll get it finished so if you do that’s not a good sign.

The RAAT is also paper but multiple choice, answers are in the passage but worded slightly differently.

Good luck!

It says that you will undertake a group assessment i imagine this will involve team work to complete a task?

I passed my psychometric with southeastern, I know this is nationally accepted so does this mean I won’t need to re sit the psychometric with LNER? And/or do you know if there is an enhanced test to do on top? I know some companies have them such as the Driver fault finding test.

I believe yes you would need to as all TOC’s have varying standard requirements. They used to be more transferrable long time ago but now they all have varying standards. I did mine with GWR but I know I will have to do them again.
