Sorry, only just seen your message! I had no issues with the questionnaire but didn’t hear anything from H&W until mid-afternoon yesterday after Emma chased them up. Did you get sorted in end?

I never managed to do the questionnaire and Emma had to get in touch with them to send me the actual invite etc with where to go at like 3pm! All sorted now, all welcome pack complete and uniform ordered, looking forward to our start date!

Hi there - I have an assessment day with LNER in a few weeks time for an Apprentice Train Manager position at KGX. I wondered if anyone could give some advice on what specifically the day involves, or its format. Only heard from LNER that it'll contain the SCAAT and RAAT, along with an interview and 'group challenge'?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've just done the leeds one for start in September along with the OP, I personally didnt have an assessment day. I had, scaat and raat on one day, found out had passed that and was onto face to face interview the week after. That involved creating a presentation based on a brief they sent and then competency interview at the same time. Got the offer the day after. Didnt do anything in a group for the role at all.

Oh nice - well done on the offer. Did you get told in previous communication that there would be a group task (and just didn't end up doing one) or was it not ever mentioned?

Thanks!

It mentions it on the lner website of their recruitment process I think, but it wasnt ever mentioned about doing it in any emails I received - although it was an 8 week process may - July so I might be remembering wrong aha

Ah makes sense. That's much better than the 4 week process for the KGX vacancy!

For anyone that was sent to St Pancras or Kings Cross for their psychometrics tests - did you have your travel to the station paid for ?

Got the job!! :D
Congrats on your position! I hope all goes well...

I myself am now through to the same presentation/ interview stage for KGX TM's! Really happy to make it this far and would absolutely love to get an offer. So if you're able to, could you share any tips/ advice for this stage?

Thank you!

For the presentation I’d say try to engage with the interviewers at various points throughout, add a dollop of humour here and there, and try to include something that’ll make you stand out a little: doesn’t have to be anything huge or ridiculous but a slightly different way of presenting some of the information or a memorable prop. Oh and identifying any areas for development/improvement is a small but important aspect. Try, as best as you can, to relax as it’ll make you appear more confident and for the words to flow more readily and naturally. Easier said than done I know!

For the interview, I’ll be honest: I can’t now recall any of the specific questions other than the classic ‘what motivated you to apply for the job?’ or something along those lines. The rest were all ‘tell us a time when…’ so my advice is to read through the job advert and job description (both of which should still be accessible through the ‘My Applications’ part of your online account) and come up with various examples that match the criteria listed including the company values, mission etc.

My interviewers were happy for me to refer to notes in the interview – I’d made a bullet point list of relevant scenarios from my career – so don’t feel you have to memorise everything though I’d still recommend mentioning it first rather than just assuming.

Hope that helps and good luck! :D

Hi to anyone who sees this. I've recently been successful in the apprentice train manager role for LNER based in KGX. Could anyone who works as a train manager for LNER or based at KGX give me an idea as to how long the shifts can be and what does a 35 hour look like please?

I’ve recently applied for the apprentice train manager out of KGX. What’s the response time after the video interview like? As I got offered the video interview straight away after the initial assessment

I applied on the 1st September and I've not had a response back yet either, and there's nothing on the portal either. I think the video interview thing is just a standard part of the process to gauge what you're like as a character.

Glad you got the job! This is my dream job so I’m prepping for the psychometric test, even though I’ve not heard back yet

Has anyone applied for the apprentice train manager at edi and heard anything back yet ? Tia
I’ve applied and done the video interview! Would imagine it’s going to be very very competitive..

I’ve not heard back yet but closing date is tomorrow (29th)

With psychometric testing to be done 15-16th October if you get through the video Interview stage.

With that time line I would imagine we will have our outcomes by 8th October latest as apparently they send out practise papers 7 days before.

I’m really hoping I get to the test stage

Same! Was just wondering if anyone has heard. I was thinking it would need to be quick if testing is then. Hopefully if successful it’s a quick start date

One thing I’d say is after research they are expanding big out of Edinburgh. So hopefully that increases our chances.

Just hope we get through to the test stage! Would imagine a lot have applied.

This is my dream, I can feel your pain waiting for the outcome.

All we can do is hope and pray we have done enough to show the assessors we are a great fit for the role.

Trust me this is all I’ve thought about since applying.

Let’s keep each other updated on when we hear back
