Hello. I notice LNER recruiting for future talent apprentice train managers for Leeds and London.

If I were to relocate can anyone explain how it would work if I wanted to transfer to Newcastle? Is it a case of joining a waiting list?

Good luck to everyone who is applying. As always thanks for any help. You guys are always so helpful in answering my many questions!

Laura.

If you were in the company and wanted a transfer it would be on a case by case basis, based on business needs and then reasons for wanting to move. People who need to move for reasons of hardship such as family issues etc will be prioritised.

Some moves may be nearly impossible, some may be very possible. I suspect they’d want a certain amount of years from you in your chosen location before you’d be able to move, unless there was hardship.

You have to be at your first depot for a minimum of two years before you can transfer anywhere else except in certain circumstances. And that’s only if vacancies are available in the depot you want to transfer to.

Thanks for your help guys. That's probably a showstopper for me

I spent 2.5 years waiting to transfer to Newcastle for my airline job...and then the base closed :( Spending so long away from home isn't going to work. Been there done that!

Fingers crossed something closer to home comes up.

I notice CrossCountry recruiting for Train Managers based in Edinburgh. I understand with LNER its a 2 year depot freeze unless there's extreme circumstances. Does anyone know if it is the same two year base freeze with XC as it is with LNER?

I've applied to be Retail Services Manager at Newcastle which is home but I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to try and get in as a TM and then transfer.

Thanks guys,
Laura.
